Question about Sony Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Sony carousel CD player skipping. The problem appears to be a problem with the mechanism that grasps the CDs. The mechanism grabs the CD but does not hold it tight enough to spin properly (it slips). There is a tacky ring on one have of the mechanism that is really dirty and has almost no tackiness. Can that be replaced some way?

Does the CD tray mechanism have a small rubber belt which is driven by a motor?

If so, the belt might be loose so there is not enough pull for the mechanism to tighten the CD properly in place and it won't spin normally.

I've recently had a similar problem with an Aiwa CD player (these are very similar to Sony CD players, actually, they seem pretty much the same).

Anyhow, changing the drive belt on the CD tray mechanism might solve your problem (it did solve the problem i had).

Good luck

I have the same problem in a 10yr+ one. Am told that this is because the laser has gone weak. A complete CD mechanism is available from Acoustic Services - 01844 347600 for about £80 all in.

Have Sony cdp-c535 cd player. The door won't stay in. Keeps cycling in and out.

I had the same problem with our 5-CD Sony carousel player CDP-C535 (manufactured Nov 1993). I removed the top metal cover, and loaded five audio CDs into the carousel. After I closed the table, I pressed the carousel tight so that it stayed close, and hit the play button. The CD player tried to push the carousel out with quite a force. I needed to warp me fingers around the front panel to keep the carousel closed. After a few cycles of forcing the carousel to remain close, and caused two separate strong "clucks" from the gear area, the CD carousel became operational again. The diagnosis of gear problem seems right.

Cds dont load and tracks will skip during song play

It is clear symptoms of bad optical laser or dirty optical lens.
Please put lens cleaning CD in player, play that CD to clean dust on optical lens surface. If that helps, fine or replace optical laser block in player.
I can provide you optical lens part number, please confirm is it Sony CDP-CX153 cd player or any other model.
Thanks.

A cd has gotten stuck in my Sony 5 cd/dvd carousel player. Appears that the label on the CD had gotten soft (sticky) and when the carousel rotates it stays stuck underneth the top while the carousel moves...

As long as the cd hasn't caused any other damage to the electronics or mechanics of the player, it should be an easy fix. First, open your carousel then unplug the player to avoid shock. Remove the top lid of the player via the screws on the exterior holding it in place. From there, the stuck CD should be right there for you to reach in and remove. Hope this helps!

Sony CDP CX 235 200 cd changer-cd's dropping off

Hi there.

I reckon that they are not being put back correctly by the loading mechanism! This is a common problem with these units. It is highly unlikely that they are actually falling off the carousel.

Open the unit, and watch it as it loads and replaces the cd's from the carousel. You will probably find that instead of grabbing the disc off of the spindle and putting it back, it might be grabbing before the cd is even in its grip. This then simply bumps the cd out of the way, and it will fall inside of the unit.

The good news is that it can be fixed with a bit of very gentle bending and persuading. But be very carefull when doing this!

Good Luck!

Sony CDP-CX53 rotates the carousel and inserts the CD into the playing position, but it won't play the CD

Hi,

It sounds like there is a cd tray alignment problem, there is no quick fix, all i could suggest is to send it to us or take it to your nearest dealer.

Regards.
