Whirlpool Cabrio Dryer MOD WED5600XW0 making whirring noise

take the bottom panel off, you'll see a metal duct that the lint filter slides down into, there's a blower wheel behind the duct,if the wheel cracks or gets loose where it connects to the motor shaft it can make this sound, start the dryer and listen to see if the noise comes from there.if you can't tell unplug the dryer, pull out the lint filter and then take out the screws that hold the metal duct in place and remove it,now you can see the blower wheel, spin the drum by hand and see if the blower wheel moves with the drum and belt.if it looks fine stop spinning it and grab the wheel and see if it feels loose,if it is you will be able to tell.also while you have the duct off clean it out,you should take it off at least once a year and clean it out, then vac out the cabinet and blow out your vent line with a leaf blower if it's long, just remove it from the back of the dryer, stick a leaf blower into the vent line and blow it out.go outside first and make sure the outside duct is clear,no cage or anything that will block the lint from blowing outside.if the blower wheel is ok then the noise could be the belt roller or belt pulley, thety sell a kit with all the parts together but usually when someone says it's making a whirring sound it most likely is the blower wheel.hope this helps.

Maytag dryer mdg9700aww no continuity at thermostat replaced thermostat. it ran for 30 minutes and quit. I checked thermostat again and no continuity again. when I jumper the wires together it runs

Did you check the blower wheel for looseness. These overheat usually because the blower wheel wears out. Spins loose on the motor shaft and causes overheating. I see where newer blower wheels have a metal hub inserted inside them, Cool they stole my idea. LOL

My dryer comes on and spins, heat comes on but clothes do not dry. I took the front panel off, it fires up but it doesnt get hot in the the drum.

Try checking the blower wheel just behind the front panel and see if it's loose or if you spin it without the tub moving, the blower wheel is probably stripped or you have no air flow. Take the vent off the back off unit see if you have air flow there. Remove all excess lint you see anywhere

The dryer turns on but the drum doesn't turn, it spins when I manually do it?? Could it be a broken belt?

No most likely your motor is starting to seize up if you can use your hand to spin the drum while holding the dryer switch down and pressing the start button and this causes your drum to spin then the windings on the inside of the motor have become weak and you would need to change the motor in the unit. And if you do order a motor for the unit you should also order a new blower wheel as well because the wheel is made out of plastic and usually when you try to remove the blower wheel from the motor from the rear of the machine 8 out of 10 times the wheel will break because it has been attached to the motor for so long. If you have any further questions message me back and please also remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation Thanks Rick
p.s on the other hand if you can hear the motor running but drum doesnt spin then yes this would be a broken belt issue with you unit

How do you get the motor off of a whirlpool dryer? We are trying to replace the bulkhead, but can't get the motor and blower separated

The blower will be held to the motor shaft by one or two allen set screws. Loosen these screws and the motor will pull out. the blower fan will drop down so make sure you can somehow hold it while you pull the motor away. Obviously unbolt the motor from the chasis.

Hope that helps.

My Maytag LDE8600ADM Electric Dryer is making a loud knocking sound when it startes up and continues slightly quieter, but none the less knocking, while running and then the same loud knocking as at the...

Hi, Start the dryer and listen down in the lower front corner for the noise. This sounds to me like it could be the blower wheel loose on the front motor shaft.
Remove the 2 screws in the front panel and then remove the 4 screws holding the front bulkhead to the cabinet. You will be able to see the blower wheel and try to spin it by hand. If the blower spins free on the shaft, it will need replaced.
I hope this is helpfull to you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Need blower wheel replaCDED?

If it was your blower wheel it would not make that noise first cheak and see if thewheel has play on the shaft if so then it will need to be replace second turn blower wheel by hand back and forht if there is a screaching sounds if is a dry bearing on the motor .If so if you can live with the sound it will not go right away if not remove motor and replace. If there is play on the wheel you will need clip pliers and normal pliers and remove both clip[ on shaft and clip on shaft revers after install new blower wheel good luck:)

Grinding noise

In my humble opinion, a dryer making a grinding noise is worth repairing. Possible Problems:

Worn Drum Rollers (Very Likely): More of a thumping / grinding sound. Replacing drum roller supports is considered to be a routine "normal ware & tear" repair with parts costing about $15 - $20 or so. Its' kinda like a tune-up for a vehicle. The rollers can be located in a couple places, but are typically located on the inside rear of the drum; upon dis-assembling the dryer.

Broken/Loose Blower Fan Wheel (Likely): The blower wheel can become loose or brake off the motor shaft and can make a "rumbling / grinding sound and can run about $15 - $25 for the part. The degree is difficulty when repairing a little high, but is commonly performed.

* Note: Removing and threading the blower wheel is reverse to prevent the fan blower from natually spinning/coming-off "Righty loosey, lefty tighty"
