My Zune is not being recognized by my computer when I try to sync. I have tried two different cables and both slots on the computer. I tried rebooting the Zune, but still no luck.

My Zune HD 16 gig MP3 won't get recognized by my computer. I've plugged it into all four of the USB ports on my computer and my Dad's computer and it still hasn't worked. The Zune is instead replaced by a...

Ok this is either a usb hardware problem, a cable problem, or a zune problem.

Basically to find out which you need to do a process of elimination. plug in the zune and when it fails then unplug it and plug a different device into the cable (preferable as this eliminates cable and usb as probelm in one go) or into the usb port. Next is try a differant cable. And finally try the zune on a different computer. If the zune isn't recognized on a different computer it could be the cable or zune. Try a differant cable again.

Usually the most common problem is the device followed by the cable. Unfortunately the only reliable fix is to replace which ever is the problem. The cable ends sometimes get damaged or loose and you don;t get a good connection. Sometimes you can check this with a quick wiggle on the ends. If it suddenly gets recognized then the cable is the problem. If its the device there really isn;t anything you can do but replace it.

My zune is not recognized by my pc

Try rebooting the computer, starting the Zune software and plugging it in again. If this doesn't fix the problem, try uninstalling/reinstalling Zune software, then reboot the computer and plug it in again. If it still doesn't work, then the computer will have to be restored to an earlier date where the pc recognized the zune.

How to turn it back on like is there a code or something??

discichick. Neat nickname...

.. Well, the reset trick (back & up) won't work if there is no response **at all** on your Zune. I'd suggest you take a look at this article and try the steps listed there. Also, if you have a friend who has a Zune, borrow their sync cord to try & charge it up (buy a new one @ $20 +/-??). Or try charging it on a different computer.
.. Is the warranty still in effect? Then maybe get a Repair Order opened online or call Zune support to get it done (1-877-438-9863).
.. I think it may be the sync cord primarily, since your computer should detect the Zune whether it has a charge or not.
.. It also may be that the connector tab is broken (somehow) and thus nothing is gonna work right. Take a look inside the connector slot and see if the tab looks odd. Which is a dumb thing to say since I can't define "odd" in any way logical. Look see if it is not straight and aligned, I guess would be best.

Zune sync problems

Hey tybaylock,

If your Zune "locks up" while syncing to your computer, there are several different things that you may want to try.

First, I'd suggest making sure that you've got the latest firmware updates for your Zune and software updates for your computer. In some cases, updating programs (including Windows itself) can improve performance and may even eliminate recurring problems such as this.

Second, you may wish to check if the files you are attempting to sync have any errors. Normally the easiest way to check files is to play them using the Zune software while the Zune itself is still connected to your computer. If there are any problems with the file or it is damaged in any way, the software should encounter playback issues and may display an error message. Additionally, you can even check the Zune software itself after a failed sync. You should be able to do this by clicking on "Device" and then "Status." Then if you expand the "Not Added" section, you should be presented with more information why the files could not be added to your Zune.

If neither of these suggestions resolve the issue, you may want to check out the article below for more information. Microsoft appears to have some additional suggestions available in through their online support center on how to solve this problem, as well as step-by-step instructions when necessary.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

Zune will not connect to PC

Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged

Make sure the OS is compatible

Either the device is bad, the pc port is bad, or the software is faulty. Try connecting to different usb port, then a usb port on a different pc with a compatible os. If still not recognized, then there is physical damage to player.

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
