The first way to fix this error is actually really quite simple, it may just be your AV cable. The first thing that you can try is to unplug the AV cable and blow out any dust that may be built up in the connections. Then try hooking it back up and turning it on.
If you are still facing the error than try getting a new AV cable, or you can borrow one from a friend so that you don't buy a new cable if this is not the solution either. Once you have the new AV cable, plug it in, fire up your Xbox 360 and if the error is still occurring then you will have to move on to the next method of fixing the E74 Error.
If the AV cable didn't work then you are going to have to move on to a little bit of a more complex method to fix the error. It can still be fixed but the methods can't be explained in a single article.
You can find Xbox 360 repair guides on the Internet that have very detailed instructions on how to fix the E74 error as well as other errors like freezing, the no video problem and the red ring of death. These guides usually come with very detailed step-by-step instructions. The better guides will also include pictures and videos of the process so you can be sure that you will understand each step of the repair.
So if you have experienced the Xbox 360 E74 Error, it is not the end of your gaming days, you can fix it. Hopefully it is just your AV cable but if not there is still a solution out there if you are willing to do a little more research.
Good luck, and happy gaming!!!

The problem if you have all ready swapped cables is in your scaler chip or your GPU. Both of which you cant replace yourself. MS needs to do this. There are also other possibilities but those are the most common.

SOURCE: one red light and e74

The Error E74 can be caused by a faulty graphic chip near the AV adaptor on the back of the console but the E74 error can also be caused by a faulty AV cable.
I would recommend checking the AV cable this can be done by trying yours on a different Xbox 360 or trying someone else’s on your Xbox 360. I would also try unplugging and then replugging the AV cable. If still no luck then give Xbox support a ring. However they will only offer you a FREE repair if you have had your console for less than a year. If you have had it for longer than a year then they may try to charge you a set price.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: Error e74 on XBOX

E74 - There is high chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. In some cases it is a problem with the GPU and may be repairable by doing the x-clamp replacement (see 0102 below).

0102 - Error in the "Digital Backbone" (CPU/GPU/RAM), this is usually caused by a cold solder joint between the GPU and the mainboard. There are two theories to fixing this. One deals with the "X" clamps that hold down the chips. The other involves re-Heating the chips.

DO NOT attempt either of these, if your console is still under warranty. If your console is still under warranty, return it to the store where it was purchased or call Microsoft to have it replaced.

I red light e74 message on screen

The E74 error happens as the scaler chip that deals with all the display, you will need to stop the heat build up, you can do this yourself or you can send it in for repair.

E74 error how to sort it

This is the replacement code that came with the update replacing the RROD or Red Ring of Death. You have to send it in under the 3 year extended warranty Microsoft implemented due to all the RRODs they were producing.
To confirm your console is displaying the E74 error message, follow these steps:
  1. Turn off the console.
  2. Turn on the console.
  3. Verify that your console displays the E74 error message.
If your console continues to display the E74 error message, it requires a repair. For more information about how to start the online repair process, please visit the appropriate Web site:

E74 error

The cause of the E74 Error might be overheating of your console and for avoiding such error messages in future you need to put your machine at an open space. Ensure that it is placed near the window or you can also make some external arrangement for cooling the console such as cooling the machine through a pedestal fan etc. But as your Xbox already have E74 error, You can either send your Xbox to Microsoft for repair ( just for your information Microsoft is no longer providing Extended warranty for E74 error), Microsoft generally takes 3-4 weeks to fix the problem. If you can't wait for a month (I know most XBox gamers can not wait without their favourite Gaming device), You can also fix E74 error yourself and that too within an hour without any technical knowledge. I would suggest you to check out the DIY Xbox Fix Guide for more information.
