Same problem. I am told at Fry's electronics that we'll need to purchase a new extrernal hard drive and have a pro transfer from damaged one to new one.

If the drive is still go and they can get data off of it then it would mean the power supply is what is bad. All that you need to do is get an external drive case and put your drive in it. The case we use here in our shop is made by Eagle electronics and can be purchased from Newegg. You can get information and a review of the case here:

The case only runs $25.00 and you won't have to pay for any data transfer or any tech services from Fry's
