You have to take the top cover loose to be able to see under it. The sensor itself is usually a micro switch which is operated by a (generally) plastic lever that moves when the lid is closed. The method of getting the top cover off depends on the brand and year of make. Some have screws on back that allow the top to slide slightly toward the rear, then lift the front. Older GE's require a thin putty knife to be pushed rearward on each front corner to release a latch. Other brands may require something similarly cute.

Model ftw3011kwo washing machine won't work after breaking locking lid piece

Thank you for your inquiry, David Castro!

I understand that your Frigidaire washer is not working after the lid piece became broken. If the lid piece is not latching properly inside of the door latch then your washer is not registering the door is closed and will not start. You may need to have that piece replaced I would recommend having any electrical component replaced by an authorized technician. I hope this is helpful. -Matt

Washing machine will not start washing when lid is lowered

ya. not a big problem it seems. here it goes
when ever you close the lid the tip of lid touches a sensor which signals the control board to start the rinse cycle.
now these many days that sensor has been in dying stage. that is why you were often closing it to let the cycle open.
now that sensor has completely dies.
just replace the sensor at the point where the lid touches the opening.
after that enjoy washing.

Why is my frigidaire washer not spinning?

  1. Stopped Mid-cycle
    • If your Frigidaire washing machine started spinning, but then stopped, verify that the power cord is still connected to the outlet. See if the outlet blew by plugging in a different appliance into the outlet. See if you blew a fuse. A blown fuse usually is either black or has broken wires. Replace the fuse. If you have a circuit breaker instead of a fuse box, reset the circuit breaker if it's been tripped. Check the lid switch, which is located inside the main housing of the washing machine, near the door frame. If the switch is burned out, order a new part from a Frigidaire parts dealer.
    Pump
    • The pump's sole responsibility is to remove water during the spin cycle. If the pump isn't working properly, see if it's clogged with debris or clothing. Use needle-nose pliers to remove these items. Check the pump pulley, which is connected to the pump. This component must move freely for the pump to work. If it won't turn, purchase a new pump pulley since you can't usually fix this component.
    Lid
    • Check the door latch assembly if the door isn't closing correctly. If any of these components are broken, order a new part from a Frigidaire parts dealer. If you do not, the washer won't start spinning since it believes the door isn't closed. Your Frigidaire washing machine won't start the spin cycle until the lid or door is closed. Always close the lid, and remove any items preventing the lid from fully closing. Always close the dispenser drawer.
    Additional Concerns
    • Never over- or under-load your washing machine. Your Frigidaire washer may not enter the spin cycle if the load is too large, since this can damage the washing machine. Remove a few pieces of clothing. If the load is too small, add a few similar items to the washing machine. Check the internal belt, drive motor and motor coupling. If any of these components are broken or very worn, they may not work properly, preventing the washer from entering the spin cycle. Order replacement parts from a parts dealer. Check the tub and basket bearings, and get new ones if the current ones have broken components or are defective.

Kenmore 12502100 won't cmplete rinse cycle

This is a typical symptom of a lid switch problem. If you open and close the lid, you should hear a "clicking" sound as the lid switch is activated. If you do not hear the switch, check to make sure the lid strike in still intact. This is a small plastic piece mounted on the lid that pushes down on the switch through a slot on the wash tub opening on the right hand side. If this piece breaks off, it will give the same symptoms of a broken lid switch. Next, check the two mounting screws on the right side of the wash tub opening to make sure they are tight. These are the mounting screws for the lid switch. Sometimes they come loose and the switch does not make proper contact. If you attempt all these preliminaries, and the switch still does not seem to be working properly, replace it. A replacement can be found at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and the part will be located under the "Top and Cabinet" heading as item number 11 (Part number 3949238).

Machine won't shift from rinse to spin cycle

Your lid switch is broken.
Unplug the machine and check with your hand for broken pieces under the lid switch hole.

Replacing this can be really easy.
