Question about Aiptek A-HD 720P Flash Media Camcorder

Unable to get images and vidoe off SD card

I purchased an Aiptek camcorder on a recent trip back to the USA, (we currently live in South Africa) in order to record our vacation to Disney World. It seemed to work fine, but the microphone was not good, so I returned the camera and did not replace it. I had the photo images and video clips recorded on an 2 gig Lexar HS 60x SD card. When I viewed the images and video on the TV from the camera in the USA, everything looked fine. However, I did not have my laptop with me or access to any computer there. I did not copy the CD rom that came with the camcorder and do not have the software that came with the camcorder. I went to the Aiptek web site, and they do not offer any downloads. When I came back to South Africa, I tried to find the images and video on the SD card, but the computer will not recognize them. It says that the card is not formatted. I have tried various recovery software programs, and the images and video are there, but cannot be retrieved in a usable format with any of them. Some of the pictures have been retrieved, but they are of a horrible quality and cannot be repaired. The videos just come out black if they are retrievable. It seems like a software problem, but I do not know how to fix it. Is there some special software that aiptek uses, and if so, how do I get a copy here in South Africa, since they do not sell the camcorders here? I could order one to be shipped here, but I do not want one if the microphone and sound quality is so poor. Can you help or advise? Thanks. Ray Mossie

I have no problem removing the card and uploading pictures or video to my computer via a card reader. However I am using a Mac computer and the video files are MOV which are Mac files.

I have found that you almost have to download your pictures directly from the camera with the SD chip still in it. Don't know why you can't take the chip out, like with other media. As I recall, the manual says to download from your camera. Sorry.

Your problem has a very simple fix. The camera which you have is not compatible with SDHC cards. It will only work with regular SD cards.

Your camera is incompatible with the later SDHC specification at the basic hardware level and so cannot format the card which you have purchased.

Note that SD cards are available up to and including 4GB and SDHC start at 4GB so you're not the only person to have made this mistake. In practice there are very few devices designed to use regular SD cards which will work correctly with 4GB SD; Aiptek only designed and tested the IS-DV up to 1GB SD capacity (see page 48 of the user manual), so this is the effective limit to the largest capacity memory card which you can use, if you try larger capacity cards they will either not work at all or will make the camera operations sluggish and you also risk damaging the card itself so that it will no longer correctly format. Aiptek never released any firmware updates to improve the SD compatibility on your camera.

I'm sorry not to be able to offer any way to use your current SDHC card but at least I may have prevented you making another purchasing mistake. Please return the favour by rating my answer.

Will not recognize 16 GB SDHC Card - Help Please

I had a literally terrifying experience with Aiptek customer service.

I called up Aiptek to ask if it was possible to get my memory cards working. I have two 4GB SDHC PNY cards, which th ekid at target reccomended after loking at the back of the box.

I was told by aiptek tech support that PNY cards will not work in the A-HD camera.

When I mentioned that the box says it will take cards up to 32GB, and asked him if this was not false advertising. The representative became irate and started insulting me, using valgure language, and calling me a liar.

At this point I had enough of his abuse and yelled at him F.U!

What happened next is Truly Absurd and Outrageous!

The man behind the telephone at Aiptek told me he was going to send 5 guys to my house to assult me and my fammily!
