Why have I no sound on video playback or freeview picture ok on both

Are you using it with its in-built Freeview tuner

If it's the Freeview tuner, then it sounds like a faulty set.

If it's a VM box then it could be faulty cable, connection or (if using HDMI) HDMI issue.

Have you tried resetting it? Use master reset to bring factory default settings.

Some TV's have different settings for outputs at scart sockets. Read the manual on the TV to see if it mentions what the scart(s) sockets output.
However I think you might find it better to connect your VCR to a seperate Freeview box, that way you can watch a different channel to the one you are recording. Box's are cheap at the moment you can get one for around £10 on E-Buyer.Com.

Yes, it does record video with sound but this camera has no inbuilt speaker for playback that sound so transfer video clip in computer and playback it with Windows Media Player to get sound and picture.

Sounds like dirty heads. Get a head-cleaning tape and run that.

Sounds like the scart lead is not in straight. Scart connectors have the audio pins at one end, and the video pins at the other. If the lead isn't in straight then you often get sound and no picture and vice versa.

Check the connection by pushing the scart lead in securely. (Both DVD and TV end of the lead)

Failing that could be a dodgy lead.

You may need to check the screens refresh rate on the monitor. How much memory on the video card? Have installed the drivers from the site of the CD? Chances are some changes have been made. You know XP has upgrades all the time. Check KWorld for the latest updates. Can you make a booster transmitter..i.e a Cantenna or something like that. Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim

If I remember correctly, this model can only have sound from either the SCART or the standard input. The solution for this set is to have all the devices work through a common A/V switch box.

The best solution is to update the set to one with more active inputs that are adequate for your needs.
