Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Hyvision (Magnavision) 192 LCD monitor/TV (i'm using it as a monitor) and the picture wouldn't come back on after a reboot. It does come up from right to the left, great picture, then goes blank. If I turn it off and back on, the same thing happens but it won't stay on. I figured it was the power supply, but when I went down to replace it, they tested the voltage on it and said it was good. I can't find anyone to repair it, so thought I would give it a shot, it seem like it must be a capacitor or something, almost like when the battery is not fully charged in the car. I don't know where to get a schematic of the innerds of the monitor and I don't know how to unlock it, any ideas? Thanks, Sandy

Very strange, sounds almost like it could be a few things. First off, you say you're using it as a monitor, you mean a PC monitor? Does the actual power to the unit go off or does the picture just go out and the lights / tv stays on?

Thanks, let me know and we can try to figure out if it's fixable.

Did you try this monitor with another PC yet and also check the VGA cable?
Most failure in the LCD monitors are due to bad DC filter caps as you can see in my pictures here:

I try to power up the hyvision mv220 monitor and my display shows dim for a second then goes to blank.

Look for bad DC filter caps first, then the backlight inverter circuits.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

My HyVision LCD TV Picture disappears after a few seconds

It seems that the "backlight" has gone bad. "Backlight" is the device that allows to see the picture in an LCD TV, when they are about to go bad the symptom that you describe is very usual. It depends on the tv manufacturers and model to expect how long the "backlight" is going to last in a tv.You can shop around for a replacement part and try to do it yourself or take it to an especialized technician. Good luck..

Picture won't stay on.

The problem is with the backlight inverter driver. It thinks that one of the CFL lamps is bad. I fixed mine by opening it up and cutting a track in the inverter board (with the power off!!). But you need to be a bit of a geek to undertake this fix. I you want more details email me at lmann1952@yahoo.com

Picture but no sound on Hyvision LCD monitor MV190

I had the same problem. The speakers are mounted below the the LCD Monitor. There is no internal connection between the speakers and the TV Audio. There should have been a short patch cord in your box having one jack on one end and two wires with mono jacks on the other. Plug the stereo jack into the audio out on the monitor and then plug the other jacks into the left and right side of the speakers (the wires should be marked L and R). If you cannot find the jack, I'm sure that you can find one on line or get one from Radio Shack.
