Hi, there may be multiple causes:

to exclude some :

- run a vir-check
- defrag the hardisk
- make sure there is enough space available on drive c:, else free up some space/ delete data you don't need / uninstall programs or transfer data to another drive/ make a back-up
- defrag the registry/clean/fix the registry using Piriform Ccleaner (freeware)
- you may be low on RAM memory or are using an advanced operations system on an older machine
- your PC or laptop may overheat
- (are you facing these problems when CPU load is high? and /or you are executing many programs simultaniously?)
there is lots of possible causes:
exclude some, check again, note some problem details

do not hesitate to come again

Program to stop running on my PC screen

Try opening the task manager and ending the program from there: press control and alt together and then press delete. Choose to open the task manager. On the applications tab, highlight the program you want to stop and click end task. If you get a window saying the program is not responding, click; end now. After this go to the start menu and type msconfig into the search field and return. Open the tab that says startup programs, find the HP program and uncheck the box. Restart the machine. You can then go to the control panel, choose remove a program, highlight the HP program and click uninstall.

How to avoid losing your work in case a program stops responding

Sometimes, while doing some specific work on your PC or browsing the internet, the program you're using suddenly stops responding without any apparent reason. If you hadn't been saving your work regularly, you'll most likely lose it when Windows prompts you to close the program.

There's however a solution that could help you avoid such frustration. Here are the steps to follow in case a program stops responding :

1. Once you encounter such a problem, don't close the program you're using.

2. Open the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete.

3. In the "Processes" tab, find "explorer.exe", choose it and click "End Process" on the bottom right.

4. Click "Yes" (Everything you see in the background will disappear but don't panic, it will come back).

5. Click "File" on the top left.

4. Choose "New Task (Run...)"

5. Write "explorer.exe" in the box.

And everything comes back! You can now resume your work...

Window hanging

Wait a few minutes for the non-responding program to start responding again. Be patient and give it some time. This is the easiest way to salvage any work that you did not save before the freeze. If, after waiting, the computer does not unfreeze, move to the next step.
Press and hold the "Ctrl", "Alt" and "Del" buttons in that order. This may unfreeze the computer, or bring up an option to restart, shut down or open the task manager. Open the task manager and note if a program is listed as "not responding." If there is one, click that program title and click "end task." The computer will end that task and break it out of the freeze. If this does not work, open task manager and go to "processes." Look for a process toward the top of the list that is using a large amount of resources. The number next to the process indicates how much of the resources are being allocated for that program. Pick one with the highest number (towards the top of the list) and choose "end process." If your computer still is not unfrozen, move to the next step.
Change the power source of your laptop. For example, if the laptop was plugged in to the wall, remove the plug and allow it to run on battery power. If this does not work, proceed to the next step.
Remove any devices, such as thumb drives or memory cards, that are plugged into the laptop. If this does not unfreeze the computer, move to the next step.
Close the lid of your laptop. Open the lid again. This may snap the computer out of its frozen state and back to the login screen. It may also put the computer into hibernate mode. If this does not work, move to the next step.
Hit the power button. This might bring up a menu asking you if you want to restart or shut down. At this point you will need to restart or shut down the computer. You will most likely lose what you were working on, unless the program has a recovery process to save your work if this situation arises. If the menu does not pop up, hold the power button until the computer shuts down. Wait 30 seconds, then boot the computer up again

I cannot open yahoo.messenger

If you have made a few attempts to start Yahoo Messenger and it isn't responding then try restarting the computer and trying again. My computer sometimes hangs on startup while trying to open messenger. Also try using the task manager and looking for yahoo related programs that are open. Sometimes messenger could still be open and hidden which is preventing you from opening the program. Finally if none of that works un-install messenger, download a fresh client, and re-install it. That certainly should fix it.

Cheers.

You do not list the program you are trying to uninstall. If it is Norton or McAfee ignore the rest of this post and list the program you are wanting to remove. If not then you must first stop your old program from running before attempting to uninstall it. You can do this in Task Manager. Right click an empty space in your task bar at the bottom of the screen. Click Task Manager. Look in the processes tab and locate the program you are referring to. Then click Stop Process and proceed to remove it. If that does not work click Start >> Run and type in msconfig then hit run. Find the program in the Startup tab. Disable the program from running at Startup. Now Restart your computer then uninstall the program.

OUTLOOK 2003 WILL NOT OPEN?/

THIS IS MY BEST OFFER. IF YOU HAVE BEEN USING THIS PROGRAM FOR SOMETIME NOW, I FEEL THAT THE PROGRAM HAS PROBABLY DEGRADED AND THIS IS CAUSING THE PROBLEMS. YOUR BEST SOLUTION IS PROBABLY TO TRY TO EITHER REPAIR THE PROGRAM OR DELETE AND RE-INSTALL A CLEAN VERSION WITH THE LATEST UPDATES. SHOWING MORE THAN ONE PROGRAM IN TASK MANAGER USUALLY MEANS THAT YOU HAVE TRIED MORE THAN ONCE TO CLOSE THE PROGRAM. IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE DUPLICATE PROGRAMS, RUN SEARCH>OUTLOOK AND SEE HOW MANY SHOW UP. IF MORE THAN ONE YOU CAN DELETE IT FROM THERE. ALSO, YOU CAN DELETE DUPLICATE FILES ETC. HOPE THIS HAS HELPED.
