Question about Hoover U5172900 Fold Away Widepath Bagless Upright Vacuum

Why are new belts breaking immediately?

I was given a Hoover widepath fold away. Why are belts breaking immediately? They break at the "driver" --motor?-- part, not on the brush. They melt. There is only a peg to wrap the belt around -- is there supposed to be some sort of wheel over the peg that drives the belt? Or can the brush be bad, becoming difficult to turn, thus locking down the belt which then burns and breaks - i did smell burn rubber!

Could be the brush has resistance..
While the new belt is in place - spin the brush by hand.. The brush should spin reasonably freely..
If not - take the brush out and inspect it.. Be sure the ends are not jammed and you can snin them easily.. If not - replace the brush..
PS - the belt goes in one way.. If inside-out - it will not last as long..
Directions on packageing..

Hope this helps !!

Hi guys i had the same problem as what dude is saying, the belt has a hard time moving the brush. I fixed my problem today so i decided to post and let yall know how.

The belt has only a small metal rod that comes out of the motor, and on the other side of the belt its the brush and the part that touches the belt is shiny, and looked like it has been slipping there too.

I solved this problem by using a hack saw, and roughing up the metal rod where the belt connects to the motor. And on the other end i roughed up the plastic on the brush using the same hacksaw. Vacuumed the entire house, and my car. My vacuum has a new lease on life i hope the same for anyone else with the same problem.

I keep having to replace the belt on my Widepath Hoover Temp. Last time, the belt wasn't broken but had come off the spool. How can I secure the vacuum belt and/or stop it breaking? Thanks for any...

First be sure you have the correct belt for the machine. The current belt may be stretched, but not broken. The correct belt is # 38528033, or in a package of two, the package # is 40201160. When you have the agitator out of the vacuum, stand it on end and make sure it turns easily. If it does not spin freely, there may be hair or string in the bearings which will need to be cleaned out.

I have a Hoover fold away and the floor cleaner doesn't work only the attachments are working.

The reason for this would most likely be a blockage in the bottom of the foot of the machine. could also be a bad belt. Check or change the belt and look for obstructions.

Hoover Empower Widepath Vacuum Doesn't ****

This model requires the lower end of the hose to be installed into the base unit to pick up the dirt. If it is properly installed, I would check the belt and also look for a blockage. The normal life span of a belt is about 9-12 months. your belt # 40201190 2 pk

How do I replace the belt on my hoover wide path fold away vacuum

on this model there will also be 2 more screws at the top near the back on each side. the hood will come off. there will also be a cover over the roller, remove this with 3 screws, this will expose the area of the belt.
