I have a Garmin 765T which will not pick up satellites at all. Everytime I put in an address it says acquiring satellites but it never does. I took it to a Garmin dealer and they charged the GPS, but it still won't pick up anything. They said I needed to contact you. I need it desperately buy the weekend as I am leaving on a trip. It worked for a couple sm all trips when I first got it but won't do anything now. I also sometimes have trouble getting it to come on.

    It still doesn't pick up anything. I'm extremely upset. I also don't like having to pay for something and not be able to cancel the account when I really didn't get any help.

Hello there! I will try to help you as much as I can considering the fact that I do not have the GPS in hand to test and examine, but i check my comments a few times a day, so i should be able to get the info back and forth fast enough. First of all, it sounds like a power problem first and foremost, like the GPS doesn't always get the juice it needs to operate normally. You said your Garmin dealer charged it for you once, but did they use your power adapter or did they use theirs? Cause you might have a problem with you power adapter that plugs into the lighter, like a wire in the adapter that frayed up and doesnt always contact. Further more, some models use the same adapter as an antenna to pickup signals. So if they used your wire and it worked fine (and be sure that they really used to 12v adapter and not the household current 120v adapter) then it could also be a problem with you cigarette lighter/power outlet. Either it does not give out the right current, or a wire broke or something, so it might be worthwhile to get the socket checked if you are sure all the power adapters are ok. If the cigarette lighter is OK then the GPS unit itself really has a problem. It could be a host of things like the power connector on the side of the GPS that has its solder broken and does not always contact the electronic board in the unit, or simply corrupted data in the GPS itself also. In which case, you will be better off calling Garmin's 1-800 support number, as they will help you out and you will be talking to a true Garmin inhouse tech. And also, if the unit is defective and under warranty, they will already be in position to give you the RMA number and all the info to get it shipped for replacement. I would still apreciate though that you verify the power adapters and write me back via comments to let know how it turned out, and also what power adapter the store used to charge yours up. In the meantime, i will look around the net to scrounge up as much info as i can on your particular model.

My garmin nuvi 660 stopped receiving satellite signal. Reset has no effect. Everything else seem to work.

Power your unit on outside, make sure you have a clear view of the sky. If your unit is working properly, then it should pick up the satellites. If so, then you can put the unit back in your vehicle and make sure it is positioned to maintain a satellite lock. If you cannot acquire satellites outside, then the unit is defective.

I takes close over 3 minutes for my garmin 765T to locate a sattelite and I leave in a major east coast city. is something wrong with the system or is this normal

Holding the satellite signal strength indicator icon (upper left hand corner of screen) for a few seconds with your finger brings up a visual display showing signal strength of various satellites, accuracy, speed and elevation.

From a cold start - I too have experienced 2 to 3 minute wait times for satellite aquisition, so I would presume this is a normal. I own three different Garmin units apart from the 765T and satellite aquisition times vary on all three, most aquire satellites in under 4 minutes. Traffic on the other hand seems to take a while to load as this is dependent on availability in your area.

My Garmin 765T does not always work when in the cradle. Sometimes it will just saying "searching for satellite" instead of calulating and giving me the route. It also does not charge when this occurs.

Nuvi Blackout

This is a known problem that Garmin is fixing. Look at:

Under "TOP FAQ" there is an entry for "My nuvi 755T, 765T, 775T or 785T will no longer turn on."

You will need to return your unit to Garmin for them to fix it.

Garmin Nuvi takes a long time to Acquire satellite

No. 98% of the time it took 45-56 seonds for your NUVI 660. Thats the compagny set up time acquisition and it did very well.

Be sur you had your flip antenna parallel to earth surface.
660 has THE BEST SIRF Chipset for acquiring satellite.

I had 2 NUVI 660 since 2 years. It work much better than those new 7xx series who it really took 2-3 minutes to acquire satellite.

Be sure you update your version to the last one.

first turn it on and let the unit acquire satellites to find your home state. Then you can set up your address as your "home location". When I first set it up, I was able to pick up the satellites in my bedroom (scary....)...everything worked just fine.
