Question about Westell Wirespeed LiteLine 6100 (B9961001002) Modem
I have a Westell 6100. My DSL download speed runs at about 1700 kbps when working properly. For some reason it slows down to about 190 kbps at random times. The only way I can remedy the problem is to turn off the modem and back on after 5 - 10 seconds. I have recently purchased a new computer and still have the same issue. Would this be a malfunctioning modem, or should I look elseware?
It could be an issue with the phone line in your home. Try disconnecting as many devices plugged into your phone lines as possible. Cordless phones and other phones for that matter can cause issues with signal quality even if you are using DSL filters. If you can disconnect any unused phone lines running to other rooms, that also helps. If the connection is still giving you trouble, I would call your ISP and have them check your line quality.
