If it's in the 1st paper tray, pull out the tray and check if theres a sensor. Check if it's out of position, if it is, place it back in position. If the printer still says 'load paper' the sensor is most likely faulty.

Loading your paper
Paper loading tips:
● Load paper with the side to be printed facing down.
● You can print photos and documents on a wide variety of paper sizes, from
8 x 13 cm (3 x 5 inch) up to 22 x 61 cm (8.5 x 24 inch). The 10 x 15 cm
(4 x 6 inch) photo paper is available with and without tabs.
● Before loading paper, pull the Main paper tray out (use the Main tray release or
the tray grips) and slide out the paper-width and paper-length guides to make
room for the paper. After loading paper, adjust the guides to fit close to the edges
of the paper without bending the paper. When finished loading paper, push the
Main tray back in all the way.
● Load only one type and size of paper at a time in the same tray.
● After loading paper, extend the Output tray extension to catch your printed pages.
Use the directions in the following table to load the most commonly used paper sizes

How to load paper

Your model has two trays on the front. The bottom one of these two is where you load the blank paper.
1. Raise the output tray to load paper into the main input tray.
2. Slide the paper-width guide to its outermost position.
3. Tap a stack of paper on a flat surface to align the edges, and then check the paper for the following:
• Make sure it is free of rips, dust, wrinkles, and curled or bent edges.
• Make sure all the paper in the stack is the same size and type.
4. Insert the stack of paper into the main input tray with the short edge forward and the side to be printed down. Slide the stack of paper forward until it stops.
5. Slide the paper-width guide inward until it stops at the edge of the paper.
Do not overload the main input tray; make sure the stack of paper fits within the main input tray and is no higher than the top of the paper-width guide.
6. Lower the output tray.
7. Pull the output tray extender towards you, as far as it will go.

I hope this helps!

Smaller items will only feed crookedly into the printer document

Check to see if you are feeding the envelopes and 4x6 cards/photo paper correctly.

Both envelopes and 4x6 cards must be loaded and centered on the paper exit tray (not inside the paper input tray).

Printing envelopes:
  • Up to 15 envelopes can be loaded at a time.
  • The print side of the envelope faces down.
  • The envelopesare centered on the paper exit tray.
  • You print the envelopes with Landscape orientation.
Printing cards:
  • Up to 35 greeting cards, index cards, postcards, or photo cardscan be loaded at a time.
  • The print side of the cards faces down.
  • The cards are centered on the paper exit tray.
  • You select Automatic, Normal, or Photo print quality.

Dell 3000cn keep getting load mpf when i try to print but there is paper in the tray. how do I get it to recognize the paper. I've changed nothing on the computer but this just started to happen! please...

I have a Dell 3010n myself, and a few times I did run into that "Load MPF" issue.
1.) Before printing a document, please check and see the properties. i.e. Kind/type of paper, which tray, or if printing envelopes or any other document than a regular 8 x11 paper. Putting all the tray and paper type selection on "Auto" can be very helpful.
2.) On the printer itself, there is a menu button where you can configure the type of paper, i.e. regular 20 llb. copy/print paper, glossy photopaper, thicker paper - after you place a fresh load on the paper tray and slide it in, usually it will ask you which type of paper you just loaded. Make sure it is the same settings as the document that you are trying to print: i.e. if document settings on computer was set to print on photopaper and you have regular paper on the tray, the printer will do a "Load MPF".
The paper sensor on it is amazingly (for a Dell, that is) sensitive and it can differentiate across a lot of paper types/thickness. If you have several computers and user across a network, and there are several paper-type settings done on the printer itself, this "Load MPF" issue will present itself more often.
In my case, it's simply because the person who recently changed the paper-type to glossy cover paper from some user who previously printed to a transparency forgot to revert MPF/Tray 1 to regular copy/print paper. Most cases, the printer setting on the PC has been left to print on to a transparency by default, so even if I stack the tray with copy paper to the hilt, it still will do "Load MPF".

I have installed the HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One and tried to print an article off the computer. I have paper loaded in the tray-I get a message Out of Paper. Load paper face down in Main Tray. What's...

I experienced the same problem on a HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-one printer. The problem was that the light-blue plastic piece, which covers half of the printing paper tray, had gotten out of alignment with the gray piece which covers the other half of the paper stack. Pull the blue plastic tray out and align it properly.
