Problem for Compaq Evo D500 PC Desktop
Error message NTLDR missing on formatted hard drive
formatted my laptop hard drive for an acer 5100. booted it up to install windows xp and it gives me an error message NTLDR missing

- Thanks, the information was really helpful. But the issue is when i put in the XP cd, thats the error message I recieve. I have tried changing the boot device to cd and still get the same error.Best Solution

when u are already planing to load windows xp this is not a problem
in the bios set the 1st boot device as CD and 2nd as HDD0
make sure the CD is bootable and start the system with the CD in the drive, rest will follow
cheers
go to the bios

now boot the system with the CD in the drive, rest will follow

- when u r already thinking od loading XP this is not an issue to worry about it will go once u load XPgo to the bios

You need to either reinstall windows, or take the hard drive out, hook it up as a spare drive to a working computer and copy NTDLR to the root of the laptop hard drive. It would be much easier to reinstall windows. You can always use the recovery portion of Windows, but if I were you I would just do a format and reinstall. NTDLR is just a startup file for Windows XP, that does not mean your hard drive is gone or anything. Please don't forget to rate!..Thanks
