Question about GE WDSR2080D Top Load Washer

My kenmore washer will not spin nor drain of the water. How do I fix it?

The washer will not rinse, spin or drain in regular or heavy duty cycles. Further, once it has done a load, it will not function at all, but I do hear a humming noise, and smell an "electrical burning" scent. As stated above, the lid switch clearly functions, as the washer will operate in the delicates or line dry cycles.

If your washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle or drain, the problem is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

Verbatum, your statement reads, "My kenmore washer will not spin nor drain of water. How do I fix it?" There was no mention of the lid switch clearly functioning, or the washer working on delicates or line dry cycles either. This was the first time I heard mention of the electrical burning scent too.

My diagnosis was based on your intitial symptoms, which is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. Since you only provided the initial statement and question, I assumed this was for ALL cycles. If your washer is working on some loads and not on others, it may be the drive motor that is beginning to fail. This could be the reason why it only works on delicates and line dry cycles (shorter cycles) rather than normal and heavy duty (longer cycles). Once the motor heats up, it may be seizing. The following link explains how to remove the drive motor:

    http://www.fixya.com/support/r599953-rep...

The drive motor should free spin by hand with it removed from the washer. Check for any obvious signs of burned wires or components.

You should also check the motor coupling (located on the rear shaft of the motor) to ensure it is also not worn or cracked while you have the drive motor out.

Kenmore 90 series washer won't drain and go to spin cycle

Take the power plug off the wall. Be prepared for a lot of water before attempting the following. It doesn't spin because the unit is not draining water. It will not spin with water in it - must drain first. Check drain hose for kink, check exit pipe for blockage. Remove the front access panel, bottom front, screws beneath; if you find a pipe there with a cap -this is for draining water. Could be your "coin trap assembly" is blocked, therefore not allowing all the water to pump out. Remove the clamp (or unscrew) that connects the trap assembly to the pump and clean it out.
If helped pl say so.

Washer won't drain.

Sounds like the pump is clogged or stripped out. It's mounted on the front of the motor in the middle of the bottom. There's only 2 clips and hoses that hold it on. These are known for stripping out in the middle. They are just plastic, but fairly easy to fix.

Kenmore 22062 will not cycle correctly

Problem fixed. I took apart the bottom of the washer to access the pump, and found that there was underwire from bras stuck in the discharge tube blocking the water from exiting the washer and that was causing the cycle problem. I guess that the washer knew that there was too much water in the tub and kept trying to expel it.
