Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer
I have a MAH3000AWW and it makes an very loud almost grinding sound on the high speed spin cycle? Any thoughts on what it is and how to fix it?
Yes. The bearings are starting to go. Mine sounded like a jet plane. Yes it is a pain to replace. But I called Maytag and they said it was under the lawsuit and wouldn't do anything for me. Also they charged me a service call even though they wouldn't fix it for me. A whole tub with bearing cost about $400 if I remember correctly. If you look on ebay or other internet sites there are guys out there that will sell the bearings and a home made puller. I had a little bit of trouble with getting mine out because the bearings were so rusted and broken that I had to borrow a slide hammer that my dad had to get it out. But once out it was a fairly easy replacement. I'd do it again if I had to. It also allowed me to learn how to take the entire thing apart. I had to change the pump out at a later date so it helped knowing the ins and outs of the washer.
