I have a brother sewing machine cs6000i problem. I receive an E-6 error code, even if I remove the top and bottom threads. The motor makes a terrible noise with or without thread. Help! Monica

Hi there
Q: What does E6 error message mean? A: The motor locked up because thread is tangled Q: How to fix E6 error message? A: Do the following:
  • The upper thread could be tangled. Remove the upper thread and any loose threads. Raise the pressure foot, raise the needle to its highest position and rethread the machine.
  • Remove the bobbin and bobbin case to clean any lint or loose threads. Install the bobbin case so that the projection on it aligns with the spring. Then install the bobbin into the bobbin case.
  • The needle could be bent. Replace the needle making sure the flat side is facing the back.

All best take care Clive

My brother cs-6000i computer sewing machine shows a E6. I cleaned around the bobbin and checked the needle. I replaced the bent needle and it still does the same thing "E6". What will fix this?

Follow the instructions below if you receive the error message "E6"
1. Check if the machine rattles and stops as soon as the sewing starts
- Upper thread could be tangled or threaded incorrectly
- Check that the thread take-up lever is threaded

- Raise the presser foot to raise the needle to its highest position and re-thread the machine
2. Remove the bobbin and bobbin case
- Clean any lint or loose threads

- Install the bobbin case so that the projection on it aligns with the spring and install the bobbin into the bobbin case

3. The needle could be bent
- Check that the needle does not hit the needle plate
- Replace the needle if necessary
- Make sure the flat side is facing the back
If the problem persists, your machine may require service.
If the machine is in warranty, call Brother Customer Service at 1-877-Brother (1-877-276-8437) for warranty options.

I have thread and fabric jamming issues with my Brother CE-4000. It jams and gives the E6 error message. When it's happened before, I could clean out the feed dogs and that whole area, plug it back in and...

have you checked to see if the bobbin is turned in the right direction?
have you checked to see if the top thread has come off the thread take up lever?
if these suggestions don't help then I suggest taking the machine in for a check up.

Locked CE5000 PRW Brother Sewing Machine

Make sure there are no bits of thread in the lower bobbin area, under and around the feed dogs (remove needle plate), etc.

My brother CE 4000 sewing machine freezes. After some tinkering I can sew a little then in happens again. It makes a shuddering noise then freezes and shows an E6 error message?

Turn off the power and remove the needle and presser foot.

Remove the needle plate, bobbin and bobbin case.

Clean the shuttle and surrounding area.

Replace everything.

Make sure the flat side of the needle faces to the back of the machine.

Raise the presser foot and re-thread the machine.

Very inexperienced sewer! How do I thread it?

The way I solved this problem was to take a break! When I resumed I was more patient and found that I wasn't doing the bobbin right. I took my time and got it right this time....hooray!

Machine is telling me E6 error but there is no thread tangled

If your thread is not tangled .The E6 will come up also if the top thread is not threaded properly. Is your thread breaking at all ?

E6 and F5 error message

Are you using the right size needle? Try using an 80. Also try taking it to a service center. To find one near you go here: http://www.brother-usa.com/service/

actually e2 is the button hole lever being down. e6 means that the thread is tangled and to prevent the motor from overheating the machine automatically stops. All you have to do is re-thread the machine and take the bobbin out, untangle it and put it back in and sew. This usually works. If it keeps happening, there could be a few things wrong.

1. if you are using thick fabric your tension should be lower. normal tension is 5.

2. your machine is out of alignment. take it in to a service center, they can fix it in 5 minutes. to find a service center near you go to http://www.brother-usa.com/service/

3. your needle is old or bent and should be replaced.

4. Your needle is too thick, standard is 80. The thicker the fabric, the thicker the needle.
