E1 Error
Zigzag motor error
Check/Repair
The E1 Error code appears when the needle bar is up and the sewing machine can't prepare the zigzag motor to start. Unplug the sewing machine and check the wiring connections on the zigzag motor and circuit board A. Replace the fuse on circuit board A if the fuse is blown. Replace circuit board A if it has a burned spot. Replace the zigzag motor if the fuse blows and circuit board A is okay.

Hi,
I have found that most often the E1 code means the presser foot is not down or not all the way down (a walking foot attachment can keep it from dropping all the way). I didn't find any error codes in the Kenmore manual either. I have several Brother machines that are quite similar in design and since Kenmore doesn't actually make anything, it is probably made by Brother or Janome.
E1 means it out of order--something in the electronics is mess up--it needs to be serviced
by a service tech with the tools to check the electronics of the machine
E1 means that your machine thinks the thread has broken.
There's nothing you can do to fix this: it has to go to an authorised Singer Service Centre for diagnosis and repair. Usually it's a faulty thread sensor.
E1 error message is a blown fuse problem. Check out this site it shows you how to fix it http://www.sewingmachineryrepair.com/forums/index.php?topic=79.0
