Dish network program guide never updates automatically

My dish network receiver program guide never gets updated on its own. I have to every time scan ahead manually to get the message for updating the guide. Any idea why this is happening & how to fix it?

Unplug your receiver from the power outlet and repower after 60 seconds. This should update the system and stop your issue. If it persists let me know. Thanks for using Fix Ya.

I have never seen a Dishnet 301 or 311 automatically update, if you haven't checked guide for several days it will update before you can even view the guide. If you go out of the receiver Memory held guide it will update then to receive more future ward info. It will update again when you return to the present. Higher end receivers now advertise continuous updates on the fly.

What time does the program guide suppose to download


Hi there! My name is Kimberly and I form part of the Social Media Department with DISH. It is my pleasure to assist you. All of ur receivers are set to update nightly between 1am to 3am. The nightly updates allow the receivers to update software and the programming guide. if you need to force a download on the guide simply unplug the receiver from the wall outlet for 10 seconds and plug it back in, allow it to power back on by itself, acquire signal, and download the guide. How do u change the time on the receiver? mine is 1hr behind the actual time. thanks


Brian,

I would be happy to help with this. There isn't a specific way to manually update the receiver time. If you just moved service to a new location, the receiver will update automatically.

If you're still showing the time off by an hour, let me know and I would be happy to try some steps with you on this.

It says no info on the programs I want to record and won't record them. The guide also shows no info in those areas.

Make sure the receiver is powered off each night so it can receive updates through the satellite to the guide.

You can force a guide download by unplugging the receiver for 10 seconds and plugging it back in. If that doesn't work, you can run a check switch test from Menu > System Setup > Installation > Point Dish > Check Switch > Test. Let it finish, then exit out of the menu and let it acquire signal and download the guide.

The channel guide only shows no information available most of the time

You are getting that message because the receiver is not updating the Electronic Program Guide (EPG). Try unplugging the receiver from your electrical outlet for about 10 seconds (make sure all lights on receiver go out) and plug back in. This will cause the receiver to reboot and re-acquire satellite signal. Allow it also to download the program guide. After you get your channel back, pull up your guide, go into the future to see if it updated.

If it did not update, you'll need to run a check switch test. Press Menu on your DISH remote; should have Main Menu on TV screen. Press 6 (System Setup), 1 (Installation), and 1(Point Dish). Highlight the CHECK SWITCH button on the upper right of the screen and press the Select button on remote. On the Installation Summary screen, highlight the TEST button at the bottom of screen and press the Select button on the remote. This will initiate the test. Allow the test to complete. Once completed, exit out of each screen till you get to Acquiring Satellite Signal on TV screen. After acquisition completion, allow it to download the program guide. If this doesn't fix the problem, you may need a new receiver. I hope this helps.

I want to change the time my receiverdials Dish for updates to the guide, currently at 8:32 pm which is not convenient as phone may be in use. Then it won't update til next day, same time.


Hi alk0955 Isee you want to change the update time of your receiver, I will give you thesteps to help with changing the updates. You will want to press the buttons of MENU-8-4and it will take you to the Updates screen and you will be able to change itthere.

My dish network guide does not update. random time slots say "No info available". I unplugged the receiver and the machine rebooted, but the guide did not change.


Check if your phone line to the receiver is working via the phone line. Make sure the receiver is correctly programmed for your phone service (outside line prefix if needed, rotary or pulse dialing.

Are updates enabled? The program guide is downloaded overnight when the receiver is off. If the unit is on, the updated information may not be downloaded. You can reset the time that this download will occur (it will turn off automatically at the scheduled time if not disabled). (Menu - 8 - 5 is the appropriate part of the menu on one receiver to set the time and enable the feature.)

You can also use the Inactivity Standby feature on some receivers to get the program guide if you leave the unit on all night. (Menu > Preferences > Inactivity Standby) By default a prompt will ask you if you want it to go to the standby mode after 4 hours of no activity (remote or front panel).

How long did you have the unit off when you rebooted it? Try leaving it unplugged for 15 seconds (no trickle power).

My 311 dishnetwork receiver is going off at night 3am or 4am ihave ot restart it


Hello! my name is Dan Busa with Dish Network customer support. All of our recievers are set to do nightly updates at 3 am, at this time the receiver will power down and take software and program guide updates. You do not want to disable this as it is very important to the functionality of your reciever.

I have dish network, I turn on the tv and superemposed over the channel I am watching is the guidepost screen, it says no data for this screen. At the top of this I can see part of the channel I am...


We would be happy to help you with this. Pressing either the "Cancel" or the "View Live TV" button located on the right side of your DISH Network remote should take you out of the programming guide. You also mentioned that the programming guide displays no data; unplug the receiver for 10 seconds then plug it back in. By resetting the receiver this was it will prompt it to update the programming guide information.

I have been having DISH DVR problems lately. The most recent is my recorded programs list is not showing anything in it. But I only have 13 hours of record time left, so I know they are on there somewhere.


You always want to ensure you have the updates being completed at a time that is most convenient for you, you can change the update time which is generally set to 3am, by going into your MENU selecting option 8 (Preferences) and then selecting option 4 (Updates) you will then be able to change the time the receiver completes updates if you desire and then please just make sure you are shutting your receiver off nightly to allow the updates to be successfully completed (this will help to prevent DVR issues). In addition, once you delete some of your recordings, powering it off nightly allows the hard drive to be refreshed and clears the deleted recording entirely. I hope this helps!
