Lawnmower is hard to start

I can't seem to pull the rope fast enough. I have to use all my energy to pull it fast enough for it to start. It has a new carb and runs well once it starts. 15 years ago, it used to start easily.

SOURCE: Wild Thing-(18")hard starting

I own the Poulan Chain Saw the Wild Thing. Replaced the spark plug and fuel filter and made a fresh batch of gasoline mix and I am still having a hard time getting it started. I had the exact same problem last fall. Repair shop told me it was flooded. If this is the case how do I resolve the problem. I took the plug out and it was dry.

Thanks,

**** Hansen

SOURCE: Honda EU3000is generator will not start with electric starter.

I'd say your battery in the generator is going bad or bad. They are very small and do not hold a charge for very long. The noise you heard was probably the starter shaft hitting the flywheel cogs. I doubt any harm was done as long as you did not repeatedly try to start it with the key. Why Honda put a battery in these is because they are intended for use in a campground setting, where they would be used on a daily basis and the battery would constantly charged. Whereas people like us buy them for emergencies only, they sit for long periods, and the battery goes flat, and the fuel clogs the carb and we get the surging issue. That's my 2 cents. When I brought mine home new, I Sta-bil'd the heck out of the gasoline, this past winter, on start-up, the unit surges. Of course the battery was flat.

SOURCE: Pull rope seems to be locked up...won't pull

make sure you can turn the blade by hand, make sure grass isn't stopping the blade after that make sure the break cable isn't bad, sometime's the cable don't disengage the break from the flywheel. Hope this works.

NEW EARTHQUAKE TILLER VERY HARD TO PULL?

A tangled coil of rope or a broken spring may be the problem. ... If a lawnmower blade is loose or missing, the rope will pull part way, then become very difficult. Most lawnmower engines count on the flyweight of the blade to carry the engine through its compression stroke. Do not run a mower without its blade.
What if the starter rope won't pull? The crankshaft is connected to the blade shaft on your recoil start walk behind lawn mower, so if the pull cord is stuck, it could be because something is blocking the movement of the blade. Disconnect the spark plug for safety, then take a look under the deck.

Can i take the pull starter off my briggs and stratton mower in one unit

Yes you can... if you are removing the center screw and wanna take the whole rope pulley off, do it slow... if when you start pulling off the pulley and you feel like the recoil is coming up with it, immediately put it back down or the recoil spring will unravel fast... it's not impossible to ravel the spring back up, just a pain if you have never done it before. If you are trying to install new rope, you can do so without removing the pulley at all.

Go to you tube and you will find multiple videos on how to replace rope on lawnmower recoil assy
Tons of videos. You can do this!! Good luck

How to replace starter rope in lawn mower

First assemble the following: Pliers, large vice grips, 'c' clamp or a bench mounted vise and new rope. Remove therecoil housing from top of engine. Turn it over, find the end of the broken rope and on pull it until it is fully extended but do not remove yet. While holding the rope extended place clamp device on the rope housing clamping the spool and housing. Be careful not to put too much pressure on the housing, just enough to hold the two pieces. Carefully remove old rope and thread the new rope through the small hole in the housing and into the slot in the pulley. Tie that end of rope into a knot to prevent rope from coming out. While holding other end of rope, carefully remove the clamp from the housing and slowly let the rope rewind into the housing. Replace rope housing onto top of motor. Poulan pro 295

Not sure if this will work for you but I had a lawnmower with too much compression and my mechanic said i had put the wrong spark plug in which was too long and that caused too much pressure when trying to start I almost ruined the engine. I put the proper plug in and seems to work ok now.
