Question about Hunter Ceiling Fan Light Remote Control

Fan with remote won't work with wall switch. I

Fan with remote won't work with wall switch. I originally had a ceiling fan w/light, and the wall switch operated the light (on/off), but not the fan. I had a remote that operated the fan and the light just fine. The unit basically blew up after about 10 years, blowing bulbs, and the circuit, so I replaced it, and the remote, and nothing has worked right since. Here is my wiring dilemma:

From the ceiling: White, Black, Red
I believe that the Red goes to the wall switch, which is a 3-way. No ground wires.
From the fan: black, white, blk/white
From the remote: black, white, red, black, white.
The 1st electrician hooked blk to blk, white to white, red to blk/white, and then the blk/blk and white/white to the ceiling, closing off the red wire from the ceiling. The wall switch could be used to cut power, but that was all - would not turn on the light. Really did not like that.
2nd electrician hooked the red wire from the ceiling to the blk/white at the fan, closed off the red from the remote. This should have allowed us to operate the light at the wall (but not the remote), and the fan from the remote. Light works, fan does not. It is only able to turn it on/off, not change speeds.
So what did we do wrong here? I know it worked correctly with the old fan/remote - why not this one? Any ideas?
Fan model - Hunter 21705
Remote - Hunter 27185
Thanks

I just recently purchased a hunter ceiling fan w/light and remote. Had it installed and wall switch would not work, only remote. I contacted Hunter company directly about this problem and I was told that they redesigned their fans with remotes so that only the remote works for turning off power to fan. The person who made that made that BRILLIANT change should be fired. So to those of you who own a newer hunter an product with a remote ne your wall switch will not work tat s te reason why.

Kjob, if you haven't figured you fan problem out yet, the must be set to the highest setting through the pull chain for it work correctly with the remote.

Just installed a heller ceiling fan with remote, it works fine from the remote but the light nolonger works from the light switch

All the switch on the wall does is turn the power on/off. You have to do everything from the remote with the wall switch on.

My remote lights up when you press the button but it's not controlling my fan.

Controlling a ceiling fan/light using a wall switch causes the remote control to lose its memory. You will have to start all over at the beginning. Remove batteries from the remote, push all buttons to eliminate a stuck button as a cause, then reinstall batteries but do not push any button yet. Be sure all wall switches are off. Go to the power source for the fan/light (not the wall switch) and turn it off. Wait briefly, then turn on the power at the source again. Try remote operation. If successful, use only the remote to control operation. Forget about using the wall switches.

I have a harbor breeze ceiling fan on a dimmer

You have 3 options. You can connect the fan blue and the fan black to the red ceiling wire. Then you will need to control the fan and light with the strings. The wall switch will turn off everything. Option 2 is make sure that there is a switch wired to the black ceiling wire. If there is a switch I would check to make sure the switch is working. Option 3 is to purchase a remote control unit for both and leave the wall switch to shutoff the whole unit. Hope this helps.

Try pulling the chain once and then try the wall control. Is it a wall REMOTE or dual control? Do you have the number of the wall control?

Monte Carlo ceiling fan and light not working

Even a brief power outage can cause amnesia in the receiver. You can try disconnecting power at the source and spending a few minutes removing the battery from the wall-mounted remote and pressing all buttons to eliminate the 'stuck button' problem. Reinstall the remote battery and reconnect main power to the unit. Test operation.
Lastly, there always is the possibility that some gremlin changed your original control setup.

The remote controls the fan speed but wont dim or control the light. the unit wont work if the light switch is off so I cant use the fan at all unless the light is turned on

mcdevito75 here, Generally the Ceiling fan motor is hooked up by-passing the wall switch but still to the hot laed going to the wall switch whlie the lights are hooked up to the hot lead after the wall switch, So without the remote, Manually operate your fan and lights. First with the wall switch off the fan should work and the lights no work. Now turn the fan off with the pull chain on the fan shroud close to the ceiling. Now turn wall switch on and lights should work with wall switch and the fan should also work. if so, re-program the remote or change the batteries or even re--place the remote.

Wall switch

I had this same problem (sort of) - my daughter lost the remote to our fan and it would not work from the wall switch. What you have to do is go up to where your fan is connected to the ceiling, slide the canopy down, and remove the remote transmitter. Then just rewire the fan normally - white to white, black and blue to black, and the ground wires together. Turn on the power and your fan light should work with the wall switch. You will have to pull the cord for the fan to work.
