Question about GE Refrigerators

GE Fridge Motor Super Loud

I have a side-by-side fridge, model # GSS23WSTA SS. Recently it started making a loud noise, like the fan's knocking, near the top of the unit. I pulled it away from the wall, but its solid back there. Where do I begin to diagnose the issue and what can be done?

Its at the top of the freezer. I took out the ice maker and removed the panel above the light. I read that ice buildup sometimes occurs in there. Couldn't see the fan, so I'm not sure I got 100% of it, but its a bit quieter. Thanks for your help.

Open the freezer door and see if the sound is there or if its near the floor. This needs to be corrected soon to prevent damage to your refrigerator. Your explanation makes be think the fan inside the freezer is loose or has ice buildup around the blades or the fan blade has become unbalanced in some way...Let me know and please rate me, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Thanks for the rate! You may not have got the rear panel removed and may need to save it for a day when someone can help you. The thing is that the fan has begun to rattle or make this noise, Something is causing this. Like ice buildup our the fan is becoming defective. Be prepared when something happens or if you notice temps increase in the fresh food section. You can click on the red parts and model number feature below. That will take you to my website. Scroll down about half page and look at the movie about what ice build up in the freezer looks like. Thanks, Again, Sea Breeze

The reason why fan is making loud noise is because of the ice built up on the coil because of freezing.
You can check your drain line to see if it's clogged and clean it out .
There are several video on you tube showing you how to clean drain line.
Hope this help

Unplug and closely examine the area for a loose fan blade or anything that may be causing the noise. Better now than to get damage that could be prevented. Let me know what you find, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Loud humming noise as fridge is running

Sounds like the freezer fan is rubbing some wires or possible some foam insulation around the fan. I would look into the freezer compartment fan and go from there. The fan Will Shut off when you open the doors. Let me know how you make out and if you need anymore help.

Thanks,
Bill
