Generally, if you get a pinkish tone with low contrast, it means that your sensor in the camera is shot and will either need to be fixed by a professional or replacement of the camera itself. You'll sometimes also see stripes in the images as well that can alternate dark and light.

Also Jane, for your particular camera, Canon should fix this for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.
