Use iSlayer or similar software to correct this... i had the same problem.  Just use the "iPod" settings for movies and that should be fine.

Ipod - asf format - chinese knockoff - appears to work great, but I can't get asf files to run. I know it works because it came with a sample video in asf format and it plays fine. I can't find an asf...

As I know, iPod supports mp4 video, not asf video. You may refer to this guide, it will teach you how to DVD and video to ipod compatible video.
Hope it helps. Contact me if you have any other question.

I cannot view films on the mp4 player

Hi Claire, I used to have the same problem with a similar product. Even though the website claims it doesnt need file conversions, it does! I found if you convert it to RMVB, it will play fine.
I hope this has helped,                                   Al.

Transfer videos to my sony nwz-s616f

Firstly; is it in the right format? You say MP4, but the video needs to be specifically MP4 - 320x240 screen resolution. It won't play if the resolution is incorrect.

So get that fixed up first if that's what's wrong ( has a great program to convert videos to MP4). If not, sometimes my computer doesn't allow me to put files on it one way, but it will another, so try copy/paste instead of drop and drag. Hope that helps.
