Re: non responsive program msg on admin.log in or out...

Use hijack this.....sounds like you may have a virus or trojan (most likely) instructions carefully but feel free to delete (when using HIjack this) anything that looks strange....also I assume you have a good virus checker (Avant or Avg both of are free) and Spybot search and destroy or equivalent.

I have windows XP. What do I really have to have in the remove and install hardware screen to be able to safely run my computer. It is so slow and I have highspeed DSL?

You need everything in the hardware section, you can how ever go into the program section and remove any program that you do not need. you may also just need the computer cleaned up and checked for viruses.

There could be numerous causes for this issue, so it may be hard to narrow down the exact problem. It could be your computer is overheating, has to many background processes running, hardware or software issue. Some laptops have battery settings that can effect computer performance. You may have the battery settings set to "power saving" which could cause it to go slow. At the bottom right on the toolbar, you should have a battery icon, if you right click that you can go into the power saving options. See what it is set to. A high performance settings will obviously increase performance but decrease battery life. Also, Windows 7 has some new graphic settings which are resource intensive, like Aero. Try lowering your Windows GUI settings and see if this helps. You can do this by right clicking on the desktop and going to Personalize. Set it to a Classic Theme and see if you see an improvement.

I wrote a couple of tech article you can read and it may help fix your issue.

It could be you just need to clean up the computer. There is a good computer clean up/optimization tool called TuneUp 10. You can get a free trial of it by clicking here.

Administrator windows vista

The primary administrative user on a non-domain install is the first user created on the machine.

If this account was somehow hidden, there is a backup admin you can access by booting to safe-mode, hit (F5 or F8) on boot before the splash screen loads as (Admin) with the same password as the first account.

After installing a new SATA hard drive the PC doesn't 'see' it

When rebooting, press F2 or Del to get into the Dell setup (BIOS). Once in there, look around for an integrated RAID controller and see if you can disable it.

This may or may not be related to your "closedown IRQ failures" though. Have you set the new drive to match the data speed of the old drive? Earlier SATA had a 1.5 max transfer rate, later it went to 3.0 rate. If the new drive is looking for data at the faster rate that may cause problems too, and you should be able to configure the new drive with the proper rate using utilities available from the manufacturer of the drive.

When Windows starts up, a number of programs will start automatically. Most of them don't need to start but they do. The more programs that start up, the longer your computer will take to load everything.

The first thing to do is to get rid of all the junk in your computer. Uninstall any program you no longer want.
Clearout all your old temporary internet files.
Do a registry and adware clean.
Get rid of old documents and files, anything you do not need.

To see the programs that start when you boot up:
Click Start
Click Run
Type msconfig
Click OK
When the window opens Click Startup

You will see a vast number of programs that your computer loads each time you boot. You can uncheck a lot of them. Do a google search for startup programs before you uncheck anything. There are some good guides that will tell you what to allow to start and what you don't need. Note any unchecked program will not be deleted or uninstalled and will still work when you want them. You will need to restart your computer if you make any changes in msconfig

I would also suggest you defrag your hard drive.
Go to Start-Programs-Accessories-Syatem Tools-Defragmenter
Follow the instructions.

Do not rule out the possibility that you have a virus or some other spyware program running in the background which slows things down. Check these out too.
