Question about Midland 1001Z 40-Channels Base CB Radio

CB Interference CB works fine with engine running until cooling fan in cab is switched on, this causes a whuring noise which alters with the speed of the fan. As soon as i disconect the arial it stops. CB is wired direct to battery and i have even tried running cb of seperate battery to the machine which didnt help. anybody have any ideas please??

Alot of times if you can wire it into your fuse panel it will quit anytime you hook up a radio directly to your battery your asking for recieve problems because that is where all your high current items like a blower are connected ( or atleast very close ) Anyway give that a shot . GOOD LUCK Dan

The BCM will request low speed cooling fan operation from the PCM under the following conditions:

The engine cooling fan system consists of 2 electrical cooling fans and 3 fan relays. The relays are arranged in a series/parallel configuration that allows the PCM to operate both fans together at low or high speeds. The cooling fans and fan relays receive battery positive voltage from the engine wiring harness junction block. The ground path is provided at G101.
During low speed operation, the PCM supplies the ground path for the low speed fan relay through the low speed cooling fan relay control circuit. This energizes the FAN CONT #1 relay coil, closes the relay contacts, and supplies battery positive voltage from the FAN CONT #1 fuse through the cooling fan motor supply voltage circuit to the right cooling fan. The ground path for the right cooling fan is through the FAN CONT #2 relay and the left cooling fan. The result is a series circuit with both fans running at low speed.
During high speed operation the PCM supplies the ground path for the FAN CONT #1 relay through the low speed cooling fan relay control circuit. After a 3-second delay, the PCM supplies a ground path for the FAN CONT #2 relay and the FAN CONT #3 relay through the high speed cooling fan relay control circuit. This energizes the FAN CONT #2 relay coil, closes the relay contacts, and provides a ground path for the right cooling fan. At the same time the FAN CONT #3 relay coil is energized closing the relay contacts and provides battery positive voltage from the FAN CONT #2 fuse on the cooling fan motor supply voltage circuit to the left cooling fan. During high speed fan operation, both engine cooling fans have there own ground path. The result is a parallel circuit with both fans running at high speed.

2003 ford escape fans do not run in till the a/c is turned on.


There are four relays for the cooling fans .low speed control , medium speed , high speed fan control relay 2 , high speed fan control relay 1, there is also a engine cooling fan resistor .The engine coolant temp. sensor would most likely cause the check engine light to be on . There is also a dual pressure switch , this is for the A/C . The cooling fans will be turned on at 213 degress low speed , high speed at 226 degress . If you had factory scan tool or a professional type you could view coolant temp data in pcm , you could also energize the relays to see if the system is operating normally . There are other repair shops beside dealers

On engines with belt-driven cooling fans, a fan clutch is often used to save energy and reduce noise. The fan clutch disengages slows or disengages the engine's cooling fan when extra cooling isn't needed. The fan pulls air through the radiator and air conditioning condenser when the vehicle isn't moving fast enough to provide adequate airflow for cooling. A fan can eat up anywhere from a couple of horsepower up to 12 or 15 hp on a big V8, so by reducing the parasitic horsepower loss on the engine the fan clutch makes a noticeable difference in fuel economy.

A slipping fan clutch is often overlooked as the cause of an engine overheating problem.

As a fan clutch ages, fluid deterioration gradually causes an increase in slippage (about 200 rpm per year). After a number of years of service, the clutch may slip so badly that the fan can't keep up with the cooling needs of the engine and the engine overheats. At this point, replacement is often necessary.

Other signs of fan cluch failure would include any looseness in the clutch (check for fan wobble), or oil streaks radiating outward from the clutch hub.

If the clutch is binding, the fan may not release causing excessive cooling and noise, especially at highway speeds

CHECKING THE FAN CLUTCH

A good clutch should offer a certain amount of resistance when spun by hand (engine off, of course!). But if the fan spins with little resistance (more than 1 to 1-1/2 turns), the fan clutch is slipping too much and needs to be replaced.

If the fan binds, does not turn or offers a lot of resistance, it has seized and also needs to be replaced.

Fan speed can also be checked with an optical tachometer, by marking one of the fan blades with chalk and using a timing light to observe speed changes, and/or listening for changes in fan noise as engine speed changes.

You should also try to wiggle the fan blades by hand. If there is any wobble in the fan, there is a bad bearing in the fan clutch, or a worn bearing on the water pump shaft. A bad water pump bearing will usually cause the water pump to leak and/or make noise, but not always. Remove the fan clutch and see if the play is in the water pump shaft. If it feels tight (no play or wobble), replace the fan clutch.

I posted this to another Ford Problem and I believe it applies to you as well.

This is a shot in the dark with out running diagnostics myself but here it goes, I had a 1988 Cavalier that would just die while I was driving it. On short drives, in the morning, when the engine was cool... it would not die. It would only die after the engine heated up to a certain point.

I took it all over the place to see what the problem was and nobody could figure it out, until finally I took it to my local Firestone shop and they had a special diagnostic tool that checked all of the electrical connections and low and behold I had a misc. wire that crossed the back of my engine from one side of the engine bay to the other. This wire was melted to my engine block and when the engine heated up to a certain point the wire would short out.

After they pinpointed the wire they replaced it with an in-tact wire and it worked beautifully.

Again, I am not stating that this is for sure your problem, but take it from me that there are better diagnostics to run then your standard error code ODB II dump.

IT DONT WORK THAT WHY. (on/off)
NO ENGINE STATED, SO on exact answers. 4.0L or 4.7L ???
The engine cooling and HVAC rules govern this (computer tables and logic)
the service manual cover that,
did you SCAN the PCM at the failure then scan it again after, no?
did you know some cars run the fans parked to prevent overheat soak damage to the engine and trans? all have hood sticker warning telling you to stay way from fans, , until fully cooled engine or pull battery neg lug for safety. just saying that so you are safe fiddling all cars.

the fan(s) run via truth tables, logic (computer)
if cold outside why run a fan?, and waste fuel and cause green house gasses for fun. or make noise for fun, answer it doesn't.
it runs the fan ONLY when needed, is the answser
and is very complex, the newer the jeep gets.

On most cars even as old as 1995 , the condensor fan control would stay off if ambient temps are below 50f. this is not new logic.
Chapter 24 covers HVAC. in The service manual SM.
not only that, you failed to test the AC per the SM and failed to scan the PCM to see if there are HVAC faults. causing this fan disablement's. on purpose.
this car come with 2 type HVAC, manual and ATZ (climate control fancy) the rules for each are not the same (potentially)
the PCM controls the radiator fan on the 4.0L with a relay.
so is 100% pure (ATZ/BCM/PCM) logic doing that.
the 4.7L has hydraulic motor powered engine cooling fan
as you many not know the A/C condensor rams hot AIR
to the front of the engine RAD and cause it to overheat
so the engine fan is very much part of this regulation system.
The AC will also shut down for many AC related errors
and will do so if the engine or transmission over heats.

I have a GMC 2003 Envoy, each time i drive it sounds like im speeding but im going really slow , i need to change the oil could this affect that and what do i do about the sound


Difficult to know what sounds like speeding: engine, road noise, what ?

If the oil change were to help, you have bad, bad engine problems. I suspect you may have a wheel bearing that may have failed. This makes a lot of road noise, alters with vehicle speed and NOT engine speed (drop to idle, noise the same).
There is a possibility of transmission slipping. this lets your engine speed up, but not actually move the car.

There is a third common issue and that is FAN. When your fan clutch fails, is locks up a normally free spinning (somewhat) fan, as if the vehicle needed max cooling... This noise follows engine speed, the vehicle seems to go just fine, but huge noise.... This sometimes is called Jeep fan noise, as many of those used to have direct drive fans.... If this is your case, the fan clutch gets replaced, not huge $, but more than it should be.

I have a whine in my dash that can be heard when the engine is reved. It feeds through to my CB radio when the radio is miked up


Interference may be caused by non - resistor spark plugs. If you don't want to change your plugs for resistor plugs, you may be able to get an inline resistor for the antennae from your local electronics supply store, like radio shack. Failing that, you can buy a cb antennae with a built in resistor coil that will also do the job. If you buy the new antennae, go to a cb shop to have your antennae tuned to your cb - it will increase your range and clean up your sound too.

I have a whuring sound sometime after I have turned car off and walking away I hear this noise and sometimes while driving for a split second.Any clues as to what Im hearing?


It is probably just the electric cooling fan still running, just open the hood and see if the fan behind the radiator is still running.

1999 Malibu Cooling fans don't come on. Country driving is fine. City driving and a few stop lights and it over heats. Temp Gauge works fine. If I un plug the sensor then fans come on but Tranny and Engine...


country driving at high speeds keep engine air cooled. but in city there is not much air to cool the engine. check the sensor for the fans. relay for fans must be ok, cause you said if you disconnect sensor then fans run. replace fan sensor. also make sure there is a proper amount of coolant in system. (do this first).
