185 cc lawnmower Briggs and Stratton was operated with mixed oil,

185 cc lawnmower Briggs and Stratton was operated with mixed oil and gas, though I think it may not have been the ideal condition (it may have only wanted gas?). It would not shut off at the end of mowing, and I released the kill bar several times hoping it would stop. I finally had to drive it into tall grass to shut it off. Now it will not start again even though I managed to remove most of the gas/oil mixture in question. What should I check (disconnected cable from kill switch?) or internal parts (and their locations) and change to help it run again?

Will putting oil in the gas tank of a 2 cycle lawnmower riun the engine?

It is not good for that motor--drain and clean and expect plug may get fouled---do it the sooner the better.

I stored my Briggs and Stratton Murray 4.5 Lawnmower at an angle and oil came out the exhaust.

Just let the mower sit on the level for a while. Then be sure to check the oil level before starting the engine. It'll probably blow some oil smoke, but then it should clear up and be fine. You should only tip your mower in one direction, ever. That is down on the handlebars; up on the front. This way, the fluids have no where to run. Also be sure the gas tank is not full or fuel will run out the vent in the cap.

My Lawn mower seems to be produced by ALKO, but has the Briggs and Stratton emblem also. It is the 40b model and having just inherited it, I am trying to find out if I put just petrol in or whether I need...

Hi scottcoles5...
The easy way to find out if the motor is 2 or 4 cycle is to check to see if the engine has oil in the crankcase...if it does it is a 4 cycle and you will NOT have to mix oil with your gas. 2 cycle engines do NOT have an oil in the crancase and depend on the oil you mix with your gasoline.
You can also check the color of the gasoline in the tank, most 2 cycle oils contain a colorant to color the gas to let you know there is oil in the gas...

Oil appearing at exhaust, smokey, briggs and stratton lawm mower.

You will need to replace or clean the air filter, and probably the spark plug. Do not operate the mower for some hours to allow the oil drain (inside the engine). Check oil level and fill it if necessary. Some oil remaining in the exhaust should be burnt next time the lawnmower operates. You will see smoke at the beginning, that will be normal (burnt oil). Hope this helps!
