I need to pull an 11" x 48" sheet through my printer

That will never work as the printer looks for pages that are standard sizes. If it comes across something that is larger, the printer reports a paper jam. Making banners is best done on dot matrix printers using listing paper. Otherwise on a home printer, you use the banner setting in your creation software, MS Word, MS Publisher, and you print as separate pages and stick them together or stick them on a backing sheet.

My Lexmark 4600 printer has a paper jam. do not know how to unjam it.

Hi,

How to clear and avoid paper jams
Follow these instructions to remove and/or avoid paper jams and misfeeds in your Lexmark X3500, X4500, X4600 & X4800 Series All-In-One.
Paper jam in the printer
Remove the paper manually

  1. Press pattlnk_10282008_1820-power-icon.gif to turn off the printer.

  2. Firmly grasp the paper, and gently pull it out.

  3. Press pattlnk_10282008_1820-power-icon.gif to turn the printer back on.

NOTE: Check inside the printer to ensure that all the paper is removed. Any small pieces of paper left in the printer will continue to cause paper jams.

Paper or specialty media misfeeds
These are possible solutions if paper or specialty media misfeeds or skews, or if multiple sheets feed or stick together.
Try one or more of the following:
Check paper condition

  • Use only new, unwrinkled paper.

Check paper loading

  • Load a smaller amount of paper into the printer.

  • Load paper with the print side facing you. (If you are not sure which side is the printable side, see the instructions that came with the paper.)

Remove each page as it is printed

  • Remove each page as it exits, and let it dry completely before stacking.

Adjust the paper guides

  • When using media less than 8.5 inches wide

  • To rest against the edges of the paper or media, making sure it does not buckle

Printer does not feed paper, envelopes, or specialty media
These are possible solutions. Try one or more of the following:
Check for paper jams

  • Check for and clear any paper jams. For more information, see "Paper jam in the printer" and "Paper jam in the paper support" above.

Check media loading

  • Verify that the specialty media is loaded correctly.

  • Try loading one page, envelope, or sheet of specialty media at a time.

Check printer default and pause settings

  1. Click:
    • In Windows XP (default Start menu): Start pattlnk_10282008_1829-right-arrow.gif Printers and Faxes.

  2. Double-click the print queue device.

  3. Click Printer.
    • Make sure no check mark appears next to Pause Printing.
    • If a check mark does not appear next to Set As Default Printer, you must select the print queue device for each file you want to print.

Clear banner paper jams

  1. Press pattlnk_10282008_1820-power-icon.gif to turn off the printer.

Printing a spreadsheet

You should tell us your "Operating System, Spreadsheet Program and Printer" for us to give you a difinitive answer. Whithout this info I will attempt to give you a general answer.

In your spreadsheet program, go to "File" and select "Page Setup" and set your paper size and set your margines and Portrait/landscape option. Your spreadsheet display should show you the paper limits for printing each page. Adjust the columns to the paper size. Highlight all the columns and rows you want to print. Find the menu option to set print area and click it. Now the computer will send the paged information to the printer and print as many pages as needed to cover the print area.

How to set the printer to print banners on continuous paper?

Depending on your printer, you may have to use a 3rd party software that tells your printer to print continuously. If your printer does not support printing full banners without a break in pages you might have to check into getting a printer specially designed for this. Many consumer printers are not meant for custom print jobs, they just use standard paper sizes. If you have your manual, I would refer to that first, but if nothing is mentioned in the manual chances are good that your printer does not support continuous printing.

I have a HP Deskjet 9800. It' doesn't want to print 11x17 size paper. It will feed an 11x17 sheet but nothing printed on it, after that the paper feed light blinks, and eventually the printing task bar...

I can't tell you for sure which thing I tried and worked, but I noticed the USB cable looked slightly damaged, so I switched it out. But the thing that I actually think did it was that I was using the A3 size paper because there was no 11x17 paper size with the exception of a banner 11x17, which I didn't try becuase I wasn't creating a banner.
But none the less, that did it.
