I have a Sansui VRDVD4001 and mysteriously had this same issue - didn't know it was a progressive scan issue until I saw this posting. DVD sound is fine, VCR sound and picture fine, but no DVD picture. Fix the DVD picture by putting your dvd in and pressing play, then press stop (sometimes you actually have to hit stop twice), then click the "progressive" button on the remote. The "P" on the dvd display should disappear and your dvd picture should re-appear.

I had same problem from the box. Called and was told to reset unit (hold fast fwd & rewind down and turn on).

Sounds like you have activated the PAL on the system. Press on the N/B on the remote and your problem should be solved.

What brand and what model is it?
Try using composite cables instead of component cables.
