Since the problem happened when I selected progressive scan on a menu, I tried the component video output and the S-video outputs with appropriate cables and a fairly new Sony TV. Audio was working and giving the background music for the main menu for my dvd. Only the component cables appear to be putting out a signal but it is unrecognizable and therefore I can not use any menus to turn off progressive scan.

Had the same problem - pressed "shift" and ">>>" (aka "p.scan" key) at same time. Did it a bunch of times and eventually it worked. Not happy with design, because of course this all happened in the middle of a film festival. Grumble.

I have the same issue. Called the company and they said they have no solution and to return it but I don't have my receipt anymore.

i activated the PAL system selection from the menu, now I can't get it back to normal. Just a blank screen on my TV with the message "Invalid Format" on the screen. I pressed every button on the remote, unplugged the DVD player nothing works. Anyone have any suggestions.

I have a Sansui VRDVD4001 and mysteriously had this same issue - didn't know it was a progressive scan issue until I saw this posting. DVD sound is fine, VCR sound and picture fine, but no DVD picture. Fix the DVD picture by putting your dvd in and pressing play, then press stop (sometimes you actually have to hit stop twice), then click the "progressive" button on the remote. The "P" on the dvd display should disappear and your dvd picture should re-appear.

Sounds like you have activated the PAL on the system. Press on the N/B on the remote and your problem should be solved.

What brand and what model is it?

Try using composite cables instead of component cables.

I am stuck in the Progressive Scan Mode on my DVD player & cant get it out of the blue screen. I have tried reseting it & even unplugging the player.

If your TV does not support progressive scan, you won't be able to get out of the blue screen. The only way to solve this issue is to connect the unit to a multistandard TV which has this capability, then in the player's on screen menu, look for anything that would allow you to select either progressive or interlace as its video output (or has progressive on and off feature) - and switch progressive 'off'. This should revert the output back to interlace. Then unplug the combo, reconnect it to your original set, and it should work fine after that.

Not impossible to correct, but a real pain if progressive is selected in a DVD player's output and the TV does not have that feature. Some DVD players have progressive output as a default option in their setup. Reverting it to interlace or turning it off so it matches the TV it is connected to should solve this problem.

Progressive Scan

Hold the stop button for about 10 seconds. The other thing to do is move the video out cable at the back of the DVD to one of the component outs (there are three of them one for each color rgb) you will be able to read the menu again. turn off progressive scan and reconnect the video cable to dvd out

Remove any discs from the unit. Make sure your tv is on the blue screen. It should say "Progressive Scan Mode"....After removing the disc(s) from the disc changer, close the changer, press and hold the stop button on the unit, not the remote, for 5 seconds or more and it will reset to normal playing mode. Progressive Scan is typically only for TVs that use Progressive Scan....most normal TVs do not use progressive scan mode. Hope this helps...It worked for me!!!!

Stuck in progressive scan mode

You need to be sure to remove the discs from the disc changer and close the disc changer. Make sure that your TV is on the Blue Screen and it should say " Progressive Scan Mode" Press and hold the stop button on the unit....not the remote for 5 seconds or more and it should reset. However, if your TV is a Progressive Scan compatible TV, you may need to refer to the user guide for the TV as well....Many newer TVs Use a Progressive Scan Setup, but this solution should still work for you. Make sure all discs are removed FIRST!!!
