Question about Maytag Atlantis MAV6000 Top Load Washer

Roaring washer This washer was working ok and recently has started to make  a LOT of noise when spinning. Can you help me locate the problem? I had the front off and the tub spins a little off. There is a yellow material under the transmission. Is this a bearing?

Re: Roaring washer

This is probably a part of the tank water seal. There is a bearing in there also. Does it leak water from that area? Usually the seal goes bad and it starts to drip water down into the bearing below, which starts to rust and then starts to make noise. If you can locate the bearing, you might try dripping a small amount of oil into it to see if it changes the sound any.

Roaring noise must also come during the spin cycle I seems your bearing and or drive belt/gear is causing you this noise. To fix this, you would need to completely disassemble the washer and inspect the bearing and or drive box that activates the turning motion. It is a large job.

My washer will wash clothes and it drained, but will not spin makes a loud roaring noise what is wrong?

OK, that roaring is coming from a damaged direct drive assembly. the gear box is damaged. you will need to replace asap.

Roaring noise during spin cycle

The roaring noise is from the drum bearing and it will only get worse with time until it fails completely. You will need to replace the rear tub assembly which is about $300 for the part. The rear tub assembly part number is 285984. It will take about 2 hours in labor.
Make sure you are using HE (high efficiency) detergent and only about 2 tablespoons per load.

Your rear bearing is bad. Check warranty to see if rear tub is still covered.

That is a characteristic of bearings gone bad. You should look into replacing the bearings.

My Whirlpool Duet washer has started to make much more noise in the high speed spin mode, is this normal or is it a service issue?

A loud, roaring noise in high spin speed usually indicates the tub bearing is failing. A large job best left to the professionals.

Is this the bearing

The yellow condition usually means the transmission has a leak or crack in it. This fluid could be causing the bearing to make noise or it could actually be the transmission doing it. Also, sometimes that yellowish stuff could be coming from the bearing getting water in it from a leak somewhere. Check everything really good for leaks. Understand though, unless you have two special tools, do not attempt to do this job yourself. You need a spring removal tool to remove the springs, and a special brake removal ool for the bottom brake. Be sure you dont remove that brake assembly without this tool, the plate will come off with a huge amount of force. Let me know if you need further help or information. Jim

Spin cycle

Did it make this noise just when it stopped spinning.  Just for a couple seconds?  If so,  it's only brake noise and not a concern.  If it does this all during spin you probably have a bad tub bearing.  Is it a roaring noise?  This is what the bearing will sound like.
