make sure you're getting power to the brush bar switch. If so there is a micro switch that activates the brush bar when you pull the handle back into the vacuuming position. Make sure that micro switch (in the ball assembly) is getting power from the brush bar switch.
There are a number of places that list replacement switches. There are also a number of DC05 models, though the power switch is not likely to vary across them. Monica, I highly recommend you replace the switch. By passing the safety of a switch on any appliance or tool endangers both yourself and those around you. Just to by pass the switch, you would need to disassemble the appliance. If you are going to do this then get a replacement part and replace it. :) Safety comes first , especially where mechanical and electrical devices are used.

You need to replace the power switch. Call the Dyson Helpline - they'll let you know where the closest authorized repair dealer is in your area. The repair dealer will inspect the power switch and replace it for you.
