Question about Cameras
Hello there, sorry to hear about your troubles with this device.
Lets go through the steps here, it sounds like you are doing it correctly.
First off power down the unit by holding in the power button for a good 15 seconds.
Take out the battery from the unit, then go ahead and put it back in. There should be a button to release the battery, so this step should be pretty easy.
Now plug the Archos into your computers USB port (while the archos is off)
It should automatically turn on and start charging, you should see a flashing battery indicator on the screen. Also, there is a CHG indicator light on the actual unit should be on to show that it's charging, it flashes when the battery is full.
If none of this works you will want to try a master reset on the device. On the bottom of the player is a small hole to the left of the plug ins. It's the smaller of the two holes by the plugins (ones on one side, one on the other). Take a paperclip and stick one end of it into this hole and press the button in there.
If even this doesn't work then you will want to try to run Recovery Mode on the device. To do that turn the device off. Then go to turn it on again and as soon as the LCD screen starts to come on immediately press and hold the TV/LCD button. A service menu should pop up. Try the format option from here (this will erase all data on the device).
If that does not work, choose Settings on the home screen, go to System after that, then go to the Repair and Formatting tools. At the very bottom of this screen choose FULL REINITIALIZATION. This will reset absolutely everything possible.
If this STILL does not fix the problem then you will need to call Archos for repair or replacement.
In the United States their number is 630 579-3515
Thanks for your time, this should definitely answer your question, sorry about the flood of information!
