If only the viewfinder glass is broken, you can put other one to replace it.

It could be glass but I do recommend you to replaced with an acrilic or a plastic part.

You can get it from different soruces: Ebay from a broken camera (S2, S3 or S5), or use transparent plastic film and cut it to the right size.

You don't need to open the camera completely. You will need just to remove the viewfinder rubber protector, and carefully, pull the viewfinder frame that holds the glass. There are four plastic locking tabs (two up, two down).

Best regards,

LCD not working on Canon S3IS

When you press the DISP button the screen will light up. But there is a power save function that will turn the screen off after 1 minute. This value can be changed if you press MENU, select the tools tab and then look under Power Saving. Check what this is currently set to, it may have been changed to be less than a minute. You can make the time period longer.

You can access this via the FUNC button, this shows a very confusing list of icons. These are explained in the user manual which can be downloaded from Canon
http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010335.asp
you can choose My Colors either while shooting or add the effects afterwards

Broken glass

Un fortuity you will have to replace the glass & screen for your system. I know you would like to hear that you could replace the glass. Depending on your area you may find a local shop to order & replace this for you. How ever due to the cost of labor and parts. It maybe better the long run to simply replace you set. I wish there were a better options out there but.

I have s3is cannon model. when i start the camera there is no picture on lcd but rest of function like playing, menu functions are working.

They have the fix for this at: www.camerasandparts.com You'd have to send it to them for the no image problem but it's not much at all. They are experts on the Powershots, they don't service anything else at all. Your problem is listed on their site for the repair and the service package for the camera at $89. They're the place if you need to have one of these Canons serviced.

Neither viewfinder will work - nothing appears I have a Canon Powershot S3IS

It could be a stuck shutter. To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see the following for further info and a simple fix that may help:

Powershot pro1 viewfinder show blank white

Hi
When the LCD screen is open the viewfinder will switch of and when it is closed the viewfinder will switch on. You can switch between the two by pressing Monitor select button to the left of the Eyepiece (Viewfinder). as you look at the back of the camera.

Hope this helps.

Blured viewfinder

Look at the viewfinder on the camera.

Now look on the LEFT side of the viewfinder; just above the swivel-screen.

You will see a little thumb wheel there.

That is the focus for the viewfinder. Move it up and down to bring the viewfinder into focus. (Don't forget to do this while you are looking through the viewfinder so you can see what you are adjusting.)

Easy fix. :)
