My 4040 turns on but won't contunue - Magellan Maestro 4040 GPS Receiver

Please replace the fan

depending on what you have available, either a damp paper towel or alcohol wipe, or compressed air will work to clean the sensor eye located top at the center of the paper feed opening, you should see a little dot wipe, or spray these out well, then turn the machine off and back on again.
built up dust from the paper causes the sensor to keep registering that there is paper coming in hence it won't stop on its own.

try unplugging your console and leave it disconnected for awhile, if it contunues after that then it may be a hardware problem

I would check the thermal cut off. It is located in the console on the control board. Remove the 2 wires and check the fuse for contunuity with a meter.

turn your 4040 on, then when it freezes, use a paper clip or something similar to depress the reset switch located on the lower left side of the 4040....if that fails, let me know and i will help you fix this.

• The only free update for your 4040 is the latest firmware or you can call the tech support of Magellan and ask if you can still avail the latest maps for your 4040 don't forget the recepit when you call them, they may ask you to send it to them for verification.

turn on your 4040 and after it starts, press and hold the power button for up to ten seconds and take it outside in clear view of the open sky until the satellites link up.

hi, there is a few things you can do here to get your pc to see your gps..first you have to be running windows xp sp2 (sp2 =service pack 2) or greater for your pc to see and install your 4040

im assuming your 4040 is booting to the main menu and not the boot loader

restart your computer to windows, then turn on your 4040, wait till it is done loading to the main screen, then hook up a known good usb cable and see if it connects..if it doesnt, try another port.

it is not a scam .then why did you bought it ,i did on my magellan maestro 4000 the firmware update and map but this unit does not come with turn by turn like the old roadmate700 which gave the option to turn on or off turn by turn voice.but what can you do that is life. regardless you must go to magellan website and do all the Upgrades and Maps Updates

Let me say u that the maestro 4050 - Comes with the preloaded traffic kit with free 3 month subscription period .

But the maestro 4040 - does not comes with the preloaded traffic kit.If u want the traffic kit You have to purchases .

So both the 4040 and the 4050 is compatable with the traffic kit........
