Sound drivers under Vista

I have upgraded my Medion MD8383 PC to Vista Home Premium, and now I can't get the sound card to work with my Headset/microphone, although a USB headset works ok.
I think I need new drivers, but I'm a bit hazy on what they should be. Do I need a separate driver for both my sound card and my new Creative HS 600 headset?

Thanks for your reply, it is much appreciated.
The Sound device is an "HD Audio Device", with a microsoft driver version 6.0.6002.18005. In the Device Manager it shows with a yellow exclamation mark on the icon. The message is "This device cannot start (Code 10)".
The Motherboard is a Microstar MS7091, which I believe is unique to Medion. It has an integrated Realtek ALC861 sound module.
I have looked for updated drivers that will work under Vista, with no luck so far. As I said earlier, I'm not sure whether I have to have two sets of drivers or not; one for the sound module and one for the output device?
I have tried to update the driver from the internet and the message is "Windows has determined that you have the best driver software already installed".
The headset sound is good on an mp3 player.
I am getting a "No Audio Output Device is installed" message when I click on the loudspeaker icon on my toolbar (which has a white cross on a red background next to it).
    Hope this helps,

Need more info. Are you making sure that the Sound card shows in the Device manger as good. Did you make sure here are no red or yellow Icons next to the sound card device in the settings in device manger. Have you tried the headset in another device, I.E. MP3 player? Are the sound setting muted or turned down in the Creative profile or sound device settings?

Realtek has HD decoder files and drivers on there site. I dont always just the MS drivers. Go here and look a t these.

    HD Decoder Driver

    Software: Drivers & Utilities

They show there version as 4.06 dated 03/2009 Try those and see if it hapls. The yellow says it took the driver , but ran into a conflict with the device. A different driver should help.

I had Windows 7 Home Premium installed at computer shop. I did have Windows Vista. I came home and no sound. I did a sound test and speakers work okay for test. But no sound

The sound drivers need to be installed for your audio device or sound card.Try running windows update and see if it finds drivers for your pc.If so then download and install them.

If not you will need to find out the maker of your sound device or card and download there drivers from there website.

I installed windows 7 pro.Now on my recording tab I no longer have my stero mix record option.I had vista home premium and it was on the recording option. Why would the sound card change? Can I get it back?

Try going to the windows update page and scanning your computer for the latest drivers and see if your sound card has a newer driver. Sometimes when you upgrade from one windows version to another , the new system that you upgrade to doesn't have the newest drivers installed. That is just a possibility. Not sure that it will work for you. Good Luck.

I have a medion driver disc for windows 7 upgrade kit. When i try to install it no instructions appear just 7 programs : Chipset, Raid, TV Tuner, WLan, Lan, Sound & VGA how do I install windows 7 ?

Did this come with your computer or did you purchase it from somewhere? This doesn't install Win 7, just the drivers after the upgrade. If you purchased this cd, the drivers are only good for a Medion computer.

Sound card settings what do I need to do

uummm.... not sure what you're asking
but vista supports more than 1 sound card (I think). However, on the card, you can only use 1 or 2 ports at a time.

No Audio Output!!??

You need to download and install the Vista compatible driver from the manufacturer of your sound card.
It is possible that if your card is old, it cannot be supported by Vista, and you will need to replace it.
