Strange offset picture on acer laptop

Ever since the motherboard battery needed replacing on my acer travelmate 520 laptop, the picture has been offset to the lower right. that is- theres an inch wide strip of black above and to the left of the picture. The screen looks for all the world that if you could just drag it up to the left an inch all would be well. I have tried resetting everything
re-installed the complete operating system using the supplied recovery and system discs, i've been into safe mode into the system manager and removed the video driver and default monitor settings so the system could reinstall (hopefully) the correct ones but to no avail.
if I set the screen to 800 x 600 it gets rid of the black lines, but everythings waaaay too big then. if you set it to 1024 x 768 everythings in proportion, but the black lines come back, and the systray and taskbars disappear down off the bottom of the screen

SOURCE: Monitor problem

Sounds like you have a coincidental hardware failure. The reset button usually sets the monitor to factory default which is good in most uses. A rolling pattern on the screen is occasionally due to electronic interferrence such as a mobile phone in the vacinity. As you say your screen is fading completely suggests a hardware failure and nothing to do with your pressing the reset. If your monitor is less than 3 years old (standard screen warranty) I would contact the manufacturer and they may send you a new one.

reduce the number of colors until you can get a resolution that works the monitor cant handle the number of colors and the number of lines of resolution this is a common problem with older monitors.

SOURCE: Computer won't recognize monitor driver

Its the usb, if u connect the monitor via the standard port, the vga port, it will work. If your monitor only have an dvi cable you can fix that by an adapter. That adapter should be an DVI to VGA.

Good luck to you

Drop down to the 'paragraph' that starts with - Travelmate 200.

Go down to the 7th line (5730 in Blue), scroll across, and click on -

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
After you click on the file name (6493) it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up.
The file is downloading in the background.

The CMOS Battery, or also known as the RTC Battery, (Real Time Clock), is on the BOTTOM of the motherboard.

Yes. TravelMate 6492, not TravelMate 6493. The RTC Battery is still in the same place.

Above the pink processor socket......see the Yellow round object?
It actually has wires coming from it, that end in a small white connector.
Not the same color, not the same series, but gives you a better look at this type of RTC Battery setup,

Could I be wrong about the CMOS Battery location?

Moi?

Yes.

Look down in the Battery Compartment for the CMOS Battery, or in a small hidden panel down in the Battery Compartment.
Also look on the top of the motherboard, once the Palm Rest Cover (Top Cover) is removed.

I have an acer 8371 not charging

it sounds like one of three things:

1. Battery itself no longer functions
2. Laptop Charger has inadequate amperage
3. The motherboard is defective (most likely).

If you have another battery, or a friend with the same battery, you can try that first (and someone else's laptop charger).

If the problem is the motherboard, you can try to have it repaired but I don't trust many companies to do this kind of work. I outsource my motherboard jobs to a company called Laptop Rescue (http://www.laptoprescue.com/laptop-repair-2/). Coincidentally, they also sell laptop chargers in case that's the problem. Hopefully it's just a charger or battery issue and not a motherboard.

If you can confirm your laptop charger is dead, just purchase a new one:

How to Disable Acer Travelmate 240 BIOS Password?

Hi,

To disable the bios password on your laptop, you will need to remove the cmos battery on your laptop for some minutes and insert back, the cmos battery is located on the motherboard of your laptop, once the cmos battery is removed from the motherboard for some minutes, the bios password will be reset, and the bios password will be disable.

Take care.

Acer travelmate 5620 Have new replacement battery It does not recognise it

If the battery did not charge using the new power adapter, take the battery off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.
If this still did not resolve the problem, then the battery itself could be bad. Try it on another laptop, or try a good or new battery in your laptop.
If this did not work, there might be a possibility that the charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard is defective & needs servicing. In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether.

How do I change the CMOS battery of a acer travelmate 4652?

Hello,

On all laptops it is theoretically possible to replace the CMOS battery. To do so you need to strip the entire laptop.

However, your issue seems to be mainboard related as the unit still keep settings when on power or on battery - Thus your mainboard might be damaged, or bugged up.

CMOS battery are standard and you should get them in any electric store that sells watch batteries etc.

I cant remember the start up password for my old acer 520 travelmate how do i boot my laptop please

The older Acer computers stored their passwords in the CMOS, so all you have to do is remove the CMOS battery for 30 minutes. Here is the proper procedure to do it correctly.

Disconnect the ac power adapter and remove the laptop battery. Push the power button for 10 secinds to drain any residual power. Remove the CMOS (RTC) battery for approx. 30 minutes. Replace the CMOS battery and attach the AC power adapter only, leave the main laptop battery out for right now. Power the laptop up and let it post. If it still asks for a password, leave it blank and try hitting enter. If it accepts the blank entry and posts, then you can enter the BIOS and change your settings.

Below is the link for your service manual to assist you in the removal and tear down of components for your system.

Acer travelmate 2350 wont boot or display

I have seen this on several ACER Laptops. It is always the Motherboard. Contact Acer repairs and order a new motherboard. IT will likely be about $200ish dollars. Then follow one of the guides on the web for taking your laptop apart and replace the board.
