Question about Acer AL1914 19" LCD Monitor
Ever since the motherboard battery needed replacing on my acer travelmate 520 laptop, the picture has been offset to the lower right. that is- theres an inch wide strip of black above and to the left of the picture. The screen looks for all the world that if you could just drag it up to the left an inch all would be well. I have tried resetting everything
re-installed the complete operating system using the supplied recovery and system discs, i've been into safe mode into the system manager and removed the video driver and default monitor settings so the system could reinstall (hopefully) the correct ones but to no avail.
if I set the screen to 800 x 600 it gets rid of the black lines, but everythings waaaay too big then. if you set it to 1024 x 768 everythings in proportion, but the black lines come back, and the systray and taskbars disappear down off the bottom of the screen

SOURCE: Monitor problem
Sounds like you have a coincidental hardware failure. The reset button usually sets the monitor to factory default which is good in most uses. A rolling pattern on the screen is occasionally due to electronic interferrence such as a mobile phone in the vacinity. As you say your screen is fading completely suggests a hardware failure and nothing to do with your pressing the reset. If your monitor is less than 3 years old (standard screen warranty) I would contact the manufacturer and they may send you a new one.

reduce the number of colors until you can get a resolution that works the monitor cant handle the number of colors and the number of lines of resolution this is a common problem with older monitors.

Its the usb, if u connect the monitor via the standard port, the vga port, it will work. If your monitor only have an dvi cable you can fix that by an adapter. That adapter should be an DVI to VGA.
Good luck to you
