Lost network connection

-   I have a pentium 3 desk top and an older IBM Think Pad lap top that I would like to use via the internet. The Think pad has a wireless card by netgear PCMCIA Mobile adapter,Model FA411.
We used the Wireless Router step by step instructions but as soon as we attach the router to the modem, I no longer have internet access on my desk top.
We have tried to click on Start, then Run, and type in "CMD" dos window
"ispconfig/release" & ispconfig/renew" but an error box comes up that says it cannot find the path?
Can you please help us? any suggestions?-   raphael7546
