Question about Amana 3.2 cu. ft. Top-Load Washer

1 Answer

How to replace the drain hose on amana washer model LWA50AW . When the washer drains the water overflows from the stand pipe. The drain hose at some point has been shortened and I'm thinking it needs the original length to perform correctly.

Drain stand pipe Washer fills and drains at same time. Manual says the drain stand pipe must be greater than 30 degrees. I would like to have a description of the drain stand pipe and it's...

30 degrees or 30 inches. The drain stand pipe is separate from the washer and usual plumbed in behind the washer. You bring the the drain hose up to the top of the standpipe and then push the end (forming an upside down U at this point) into the top of the open 2-3" diameter PVC pipe and secure it so that it won't back out (but do not seal the opening). Nylon ties or hose clamps will work. The height requirement is so that the bottom of the hose in the standpipe is above the water level in the washer - this avoids the drain siphoning the water out of the washer. Check how far into the standpipe the drain hose has been pushed. If it is below the level of the water in the washer, back it out. Check the height of the standpipe. Many washer manuals recommend a 34" standpipe (max height of 48") based on the drain hose length on the down side of the U. Also make sure no one sealed the top of the standpipe against air entering the pipe. (Often this is done because of a back up in the drain, pull the drain hose out and get the pipe cleaned out and then put the hose in to the proper distance. Then leave the top of the standpipe open.)

For a picture of the standpipe, see http://www.appliance411.com/faq/washer-drain.shtml .

There is a parts diagram for your washer itself is here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/GE-Parts/Washer-Parts/Model-GLWN5050M0WS/0432/0153200?searchedModel=glwn5050&blt= .

I hope this helps.

The water in my machine does not stop flowing it keeps going through the out let pipe

Make sure that the drain hose does not stick too deep into the stand pipe or drain tub. The end of the drain hose should be elevated about 9 inches higher than the top of the washer to prevent siphoning. Cut the excess of the drain hose if it sticks too deep into the stand pipe or drain tub.

Please specify the brand and model of the washer if the problem is not resolved above for specific troubleshooting guide.

LSR8233JQ0Washer won't fill

The water is syphoning out the drain hose.
Many times when the stand pipe is backing up someone will seal the washer drain hose to the pipe to avoid overflow of the stand pipe.
This causes the water to syphon from the washer.

Or the opening for the stand pipe is just big enough to put the drain hose in and is to tight causing the syphon.

Putting the drain hose to far down the pipe can cause a syphon also.

Electrolux dishwasher won't drain. Not a clog in the outlet hose or drain pipe.

The drain hose on a washing machinemag-glass_10x10.gif connects the drain pump to a stand pipe, a U-pipe under the sink, or another place for draining dirty water into the sewer. If your washer won't drain properly, the problem is sometimes an object blocking the drain hose, like a pair of underpants, a child's sock, or pieces of something that broke up in the washer.
  1. Unplug the washer and put the plug on top of the machine to keep it out of any spilled water.
  2. Step 2 Take any wet clothes out of the washer and bail the water out of the drum with the bucket. The washer may be too heavy to move if it's full of water and wet clothing.
  3. Step 3 Pull the washer out from the wall enough for you to get behind it.
  4. Step 4 Remove the plate from the back of the washer by taking out all the screws. Different brands and models of washers vary in how many screws hold on the back plate, and not all models require removing the plate to get to the pump where the hose is attached.
  5. Step 5 Locate the drain hose. Of the three hoses coming out of the back of the washer, the drain hose is the largest in diameter and is attached to a drain pipe instead of a faucet.
  6. Step 6 Check the drain hose for kinks and bends. These are often the cause of a blocked or slow-running drain hose.
  7. Step 7 Remove the drain hose from the washer by detaching it from the drain pump. You will need a screwdriver or a slide-lock wrench to open the clasp that holds the hose to the pump, depending on what type of clasp it is.
  8. Step 8 Keep the bucket nearby to catch any water that comes out of the drain pump when you remove the hose.
  9. Step 9 Remove the other end of the house from the pipe it drains into.
  10. Step 10 Bend the clothes hanger open so you can use it to poke inside the hose. Push or pull out the material that's causing the blockage.
  11. Step 11 Replace the hose and run the washer to check if it's clear.

Amana washer machine will not hold water. The drain hose is fine. What esle could be wrong?

The drain hose could be stuck too far down the drain pipe allowing it to siphon the water out. Also if it seals too tight into the drain pipe it will siphon the water out.

Washer will only fill halfway

hello, 1 possable problem a pretty common problem and the solution is blindingly simple. It’s caused by the drain hose siphoning water out of the washer tub. There are two common causes for siphoning and I’ll explain both of them below.

drain-min.jpgOne cause for siphoning is simply that the drain hose discharge is below the fill level of the washer tub. This picture shows the minimum drain height needed to avoid siphoning.
Another common cause for siphoning is not having an air break between the drain hose and the drain stand pipe. Usually, this isn’t a problem since the drain hose diameter is usually much smaller than the diameter of the drain stand pipe. But sometimes folks will inadvertently remove the air break by duct taping the drain hose to the stand pipe. They might do this because the drain hose keeps popping out of the stand pipe when the washer pumps out the tub. Other times, the drain hose might fit into the stand pipe with a tight interference fit.also check your water inlet valve filter/screen make sure its not clogged.

Frigidaire front load washer won't drain or spin

This often is a drain hose that is too low or a drain hose that has been pushed too far down inside the stand pipe....the water is actually siphoning out of the washer. Do not "seal" the drain hose to the house plumbing pipe, this will also allow the water to be siphoned out.

Water Drains out as fast as it is filling

You have too much of the drain hose inside the drain line causing the water to siphen out as its coming in. Pull some of the drain hose out and secure the hose. There should only be about 8 inches or so of the hose inside the pipe.
