Question about Dishwashers

Kenmore Ultra Wash Dishwasher (Mod: 665.1373) makes bad noise after the tub fils and the pump starts running. (Not sure how to describe noise.) Bad pump? Other? I have checked for anything obstructing rotating parts and that is definitely not it. My guess is something wrong with the pump, but not sure. If so, I'm wondering what my options are. Like are their common problems with pumps that can be fixed at home? Replacement?

I removed the front panel. It certainly became clearer that the noise was coming from the bottom of the dishwasher (and almost certainly the center). This however did not allow me to see the shaft or any other moving parts to assess for wear or looseness. Is there a fairly simple way to see/evaluate the shaft or other possibly worn or loose moving parts?

By the way, my wife and I have decided the sound could be described as a fairly high pitched whirling sound, with occasional, very brief moments (like 0.25-0.5 seconds) of much higher volume (or intensity).

Not sure how else to proceed. Trying to avoid an expensive service call if I can. Any further direction you can provide would be great. :)

    Thanks.

Definately sounds like a pump on its way out. Probably not the pump itself - but the starting capacitor.
However it may be cheaper for you in the long run to have a professional out to diagnose the problem instead of throwing money into it blindly.
You can always pay the service fee... then do the work yourself - however without testing the capacitor and probing the motor's leads - you are repairing blindly.

In some cases it is the pump that causes the problem but I would advise to have the front panel removed to inspect the unit while it is making the noise. Some of the noise may come from the shaft that has worn out and may need replacement. Once the panel is open you may also pinpoint easier where the noise is coming from. Normally for mechanical parts it could be worn out and needs replacement or may have been dislocated and would need tightening up the bolts or relocating parts back to its original position.

you may need to check on the shaft down to the motor since the sound seemed like a metal to metal contact, just to be sure. You will have to remove the tub for the dishes to expose all the mechanical parts underneath. You should see better the parts and see if there are parts rubbing each other. Normally for that you may just have to tighten some bolts or align it. If you do not notice any you may try to move the parts while the power is unplugged and see if you can recreate the noise to identify the parts causing the sound. Do not forget to check on the motor. If all check out you may want to see if there are bearings that needed to be replaced or if some grease is just needed.

This is fairly simple but you can take digital photos prior to removal of any parts and the rule is that the first to be dismantled is the last to be installed.

Kenmore dishwasher- only three buttons light up when pressed, will not start.

Hi

First make sure that nothing is blocking the drain pump assembly located inside the lower front panel of the dishwasher. If the issue returns after its cleaned then try to reset the dishwasher control by pressing the HEATED DRY button and hold it for 15 seconds, if its still not resolved then it means that the control board has gone bad and should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Kenmore 587-1519 dishwasher 5 years old just started making a squealing noise during certain times on any wash cycle. Noise is coming from under the tub.

Sounds like something is stuck in the pump. Your pump propeller may be going out causing strain on the windings of the pump. If you have anymore questions please comment me back.

I have an kenmore elite "ultra wash" model 665. not sure the rest.. about 7/8 years old, making loud buzzing sound during wash cycles, starts about 5 minutes into the normal wash cycle. i removed the inlet...

I have the same problem as those who stated their dishes are not getting clean. If you listen to the wash cycle you should hear water sloshing around inside. If you hear just a humming sound the washer has no water. I have this problem. I had a tech come and he told me the water is syphoning out my drain and I need to change my plumbing, then he charged me $65. I have lived in this house for ten years. 6 with the washer that came with house and 4 with this Kenmore Elite. This problem started about 6 months ago. So what I have been doing is opening the door, after the humming starts and the sloshing stops, and adding about 2 L of water. It seems to wash just fine after that.

Loud Buzzing Sound from Dishwasher

have you ever seen green led "Clean" light flashing? before or about the same time the buzzing sound started? and if so that would indicate that the control senses a fault in the temperature rise during the heating cycle and that the electronic control could be reset by initiating a service diagnostic cycle.(which is what you were trying to do) pls reread your manual there are times during that sequence that some buttons have to be pushed at the same time and within a certain amount of time..possible that your machine also has a bad timer which would give you a buzzing noise..if thats the case I would recommend replacing the cpu or control board..or the machin all together..The Kenmore Ultra Wash Quiet Guard name is sears but whirpool has the contract to produce all "kenmore products.hope that helps.

Kenmore Ultra Wash Dishwasher Problem

there is no real way of checking the keypad. Not with a meter but if you push normal wash for example and it does not respond this usually means that you have a bad keypad

Make sure you run water in your sink until it is hot before you start the dishwasher. On the newer dishwashers they will fill and drain until the water is hot enough so it takes longer if it starts with cold water. Normal time for a basic wash could take about 45 min.

Kenmore Ultra Wash Model 665 Dishwasher

Dishwashers which are properly installed and regularly used won't normally have a problem with bad odors. Check the following: ?Was the drain hose brought in at the top of the cabinet, or down near the floor? it must be 34" from the floor. ?Do you run the unit at least once every 2 days? -Run a cycle with a quart of vinegar to clean the tub and pump. ?Does the disposal tend to back up slightly when the dishwasher drains? Drain may be clogged. -Don't use gel detergent! ?Check your water softener(If so equipped) These can cause foul odors in the water supply if not properly balanced or maintained Good luck!
