Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator

Refrigerator lite doesn't work

It's not the bulb, it's not the switch at the bottom of the door.
Is there anything else I should check before I call a repairman?

This happened to me once... Unplug the fridge, then using a screwdriver, gently lift up on the metal "tab" inside the light socket. This tab is the "hot" conductor, and sometimes can get mushed down so it doesn't contact the base of the bulb. Again, it's the "hot" conductor, so be sure you UNPLUG the fridge before trying it!

Lite bulb in freezer not working, put a new bulb in still not working

Unplug it.

There is usually a switch that gets frozen in the closed (door) position.

Try looking in the freezer, front and center, ceiling area.

If the switch moves easily, then it could be the socket.

If it is iced up, wipe it with a warm wet cloth in the same direction that the door opens and closes to get it to spring back.

Plug it back in.

If that doesn't help post a model # and I'll continue the walk through.

Light not working on bottom freezer

Probably a bad door switch. Turn off the power, pull out the door switch, connect both contacts together with a jumper wire (bypassing the switch). Light goes on bad switch. Light stays off, check bulb or bulb soket (expecially center hot pin, they tend to flatten out over time and will not make contact with the bulb).

I have the bottom freezer w/2 doors up top....light inside will not go off and has started to melt some of the plastic pieces. How do you remove the light bulbs so the darn thing doesn't burn...

There should be a light switch inside each compartment, depress them with the door open one at a time, locate the bad switch and disconnect it. You can remove the bulbs too. Most of the problems with bottom freezer are the door, they seem to not get closed properly and they get heavily frosted, once frosted they seem not to close correctly and cause the lights to remain on.
I would look for the problem with the door closing or the door switch failing.

If you do not already have the new free Adoobe Reader installed on your computer click here=> Adobe Reader X (10.1) Just make sure to uncheck the items not needed during the download. There also could be another problem related to the mother board that can also keep the light on while door is close but not likely. The part number for the light swirch is=> WR23X10175 Light Switch Information on how to test the switch is also on that page. Until we have repaired the problem please unplug and remove the lights because this heat will keep the refrigerator running and possibly melt the plastic housing holding the bulbs. Why dont the lites in reftig work --I replaced

Good day,
If both lights went out at the same time, then it is normally the light switch which is located front and usually top of fridge compartment.
First, test the old bulbs in a lamp ect. if O.K. then you will have to change the switch.
It pries out, but is usually broken in the process.
Do this with the machine unplugged, since the power to the switch is always hot electrically.

But before anything else.......
Make sure the new bulbs are snugged in well. They form a moisture seal, and must be tight.

heck you door alignment to be sure when the door closes it is hitting th lite switch and turning the lights off. sometimes it is necessary to put shims on the door hinges to raise the door to cause it to hit the switch properly.

Power and no lites in refrig/freezer; beeping

depending on age of unit, the problem may lie in the light bulb, well the door closing anyway, the newer unit s actuall will shut down all interior lights, in the evnet that teh door is left open for more then 2-3 min, so its possible that a light switch is not being activated so the uit thinks the door is open and has shut down the rest of lights, cooling however does continue normally.
