Yellow ink will not print

You may have blocked yellow print head nozzles.

Try the printer maintenance to clear the printer nozzles.
After several deep cleaning attempts and there is no improvements in the printthen a new print head is required.
A new print head maybe expensive and it maybe more cost effective to purchase anew printer.
The Print head will contain all the nozzels for all the different colors so you cannot just replace a single color print head nozzels.

The printer made a big clunk noise and now does not print in color or black and white

More than likely the belt on the print head has come loose. This can be because the belt slipped or because the pulley that drives the belt is broken.

This part is located directly behind the print head and will look like a tiny wheel.

Really bad clunking sounds while printing

The commonest cause of blurry print is oscillation of the print head running along the track. This is usually due to contamination of the grease by dust etc. Wipe the track clean and try a print. If the blur has gone, you've found that problem - but you will now need to re-lubricate the track. A light lithium grease is ideal.

If the blur has not gone, the clunking noises might or might not be associated. You now need to take off the printer top cover to have a look at what is going on. To help you with this, download the Service Manual from:

Printer makes noise while cleaning heads

Grinding noise is most likely caused by the carriage lock getting stuck and holding the print head at the home position. The noise is caused by the toothed belt that pulls the head back and forth, skipping over the splines on the motor drive wheel. If you have been able to print since the problem occurred, chances are that it has freed itself up and will be fine. Regarding the loss of cyan & magenta output, follow the solution given in my previous posts to complete a manual under-head cleaning cycle. This should get you going. Check this previous post for cleaning info:

Sounds like your encoder strip is out of alignment. The encoder strip is a thin clear plastic strip that runs along the back side of the print head. It feeds information to the print head during the print process. If it it out of alignment or is missing, the printer will make a violent clunking noise during startup and will fail its self test. If it is out of alignment and still mounted, push back on it with your thumbs, then push down gently. Finally, pull it toward you with your index fingers and up into the groove behind the print heads. If the encoder strip is unmounted or totally removed from the printer, check it for damage. If there is so much as a bend or kink in it, it will have to be replaced. New strips can be purchased from HP for around $60. You will have to determine whether it is cost effective to replace the strip or replace the printer. Now if it is undamaged, you can remount it. There is a hook on each side of the print track where the strip hooks into. Be careful because the strip will not hook in easily because once you get one side hooked in, it is difficult to keep it hooked in while you connect the other side. Once you get both sides hooked in, align it as stated above. Hope this helps. Good luck.
