Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

My Maytag side by side has stopped cooling well on the cooler side. The freezer works fine. Seems to have little or any airflow in the cooler section. Good air flow in the freezer. Could the air be restricted at some point?

Concerning my Maytag side by side frig, that model number is MZD2766GEW. The serial number is 18222240AN. At this point I have the frig, unplugged to defrost. Maybe that will help.

Air flow can be affected by ice formation obstructing the air flow channels.

This kind of problems can also be caused by a defective fridge thermostat control, or by a bad temperature sensor, depending on the model.

You can try first doing a complete defrost and leaving the appliance unplugged for a while.

Try also giving me the fridge model number , as printed on service tag, so that I can be more specific.

Regards.

If defrosting does not fix the problem, then there is a fault regarding temperature control, defrost control or control board.

Check the diagram on this page. the temperature control, defrost control and the tunnel control must be tested.
Testing is done using a multimeter to check if they open or close a circuit under determined condition.

Here all diagrams and parts for your fridge.

If the fridge is less than 2 years old then your warranty may still cover the repair in full.

If it is over two years, then you can call the number listed on the user manual to get a quote on repair.

    Regards.

I have a Maytog Refrigerator; 11 years old; the freezer cools and the frig does not; unplugged it and it worked for 7 seconds and then stopped; any ideas?

My fridge stopped working for good, but I think you need to let it cool down over night if you have a cooler put ice and let it there over night. I think it will work a little longer than 7 seconds.

Maytag side by side, freezer working fine, refrigerator not cooling.

If your freezer side is capable of making ice, and that ice is dry and remains so,

the only issue you have is insufficient airflow to the reefer box section from the freezer.

The refrigerator section is 100% reliant upon the frezers side for all of its cold air.

The refer box has no evaportator of its own, There are 2 settings or dials.

One is the temperature thermostat, it actually controls the compresssor motors cycling,

thus the desired ice box temperature as well, it often says 1-10 and off as well, the reamaining setting, the one that cannot turn the compressor motor either off nor on is a damper door controller, that modulates the freezers airflow into the reefers box! This is where the problems occur, when one notices the reefers box is warm, they max both settings, which seems logical , and is for the thermostat dials setting.Where the major counter intuitive reality exists is the flapper dooors setting will say Colder and Warmer!!Colder of course!! right?? No, it actually means and usually does say, Colder Freezer!!not Colder Reefer! so you MAX or RAISE the thermostat, thats ok to do.But maxing or raising the other setting is just starving the reefer box section from sufficient cold air flow to maintain adequate temps.I have gone to hundreds of identical calls, Freezers ok, but Reefers warm! If the freezers making ice and the ice is dry, there is no problem with the refrigeration system, its airflow.when defrost timers or heaters fail the symptoms may be as yours, however the freezer will slowly warm in another day or so. But if the freezers making ice for days and never getting wet theres an airflow issue period, you may need to remove the back wall panel in the freeezer to see the coils condition , is it iced up or blocking airflow with icing/ is the ducting open between the freezer and reefer boxes?setting both dials to the midway setting should work fine. the condenser coils may be dirty/dusty too, is the cardboard backing still in place on back? it needs to be there intact.

is there product inside the reefer box? if not add 3 gallons of water.

?

Refrig side not cooling....freezer side operating fine

Check that the damper vent that sends cold air from the freezer into the fresh food side is not blocked by contents. Check that the damper is opening to allow cool air to transfer. Put the fridge into diagnostic mode to check the thermistors.

Has stopped cooling

IF THE FREZERWORKS THE ISSUE IS THE SETING FOR THE AIRFLOW BETWEEN THE FREEZER AND REFER BOX IS SET TO MAX COLD FREEZER, IT HAPPENS MORE THAN YOU WOULD THINK! IF IT SEEMS WARM, RATHER THAN SETTING THE THERMOSTAT TO COLDER THEY ALSO PEG THE OTHER CONTROL THAT DOES NOT CONTROL THE COMPRESSOR AT ALL IT SIMPLY OPENS A FLAPPER TRAP DOOR AJAR OR WIDE OPEN OR IF SET TO MAX COLD IT CLOSES OFF THE REEFER!! AND KEEPS THE COLD IN THE FREEZER BOX, IF THE FREEZER WORKS ITS FINE !

Refrigerator not cooling but freezer is

Something has stopped the cold air being ducted from freezer side to refrigerator side of things. Possibly duct blocked due to ice build up, evaporator not self defrosting etc. Turn unit off for a few days till it melts and then turn back on. If it was because a door has been left slightly open you will be ok. If for any other reason you will want to have it serviced in the next week or so.
