Your power supply is external to the laptop, it plugs into the wall and then to the laptop, there is no opening for it.

How can I assure that the power supply unit PSU is defective?

You only need a PSU board if the back light inverters are combined with it. Otherwise look for the inverter board. To be sure it's defective, when the picture goes off shine a flashlight on the screen to see if you can spot movement from the program on the screen. If you can see movement then the inverter board needs replacing. If you can't see any movement then the T-Con board is bad. How to replace power fuse

You have to unscrew and open the charger. Inside you will see the main board and the Power Suply Unit (black box). If the problem is in PSU have to open it and change the fuse inside. May need some soldering skills there. The position of the fuse and the type depends on the manufacturer. There are many fake imax models and never have the same PSU . Even the original has different psu.
Now if the problem is on the board you need more experience in electronics and soldering. In this case better buy another one from ebay.

When I put the plug into the PSU for my sony tower pc the green indicator light just keeps flashing. Now when I unplug the 24 pin connector from the mother board the light on the PSU is steady green. What...

the PSU has Problem . It is not supplying enough voltage to boot the PC, capacitors inside the PSU are weak or damaged. Its dangerus to open the PSU coz, Capacitors have high voltage currents. If you have the Knowledge of electronics, then open the PSU and detect the Weak or Leeky Capacitors and replace them with new one( this method is for experiment and thrill) . But the replacement new PSU is better , perfect and cheaper then repairing the psu from outside. best of luck

I have a Compaq Presario SR1830NX desktop, I leave it on all the time, when I got up this morning, it was off, so I pressed the power button, but it doesn't power on, nothing happens.. I checked the power...

step 2 the TECH uses a voltmeter and checks all wires on PSU for correct voltage.

PSU in Desktop dead, my guess fans dead too right>
you never said, what it does inside PC ,except nothing
does nothing mean dead silence?
the fan must run for 1second, then goes off.
a 1 second run tells me the PC power switch told the MOBO to turn on and in turn it tells the PSU to turn on,
the PSU then turns on for at least 1second,and if the voltages are ok
then the PSU stays on, else off goes.

15 and 16?
the 20 pin older supplies those are both ground
but 24 pin ATX pins are correct there.
the voltages are here.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATX

There are 2 causes, of dead power button.
1: the buttons 2 wire cable ends fell off. at button or PC mobo.
2: The PSU is bad.
3: the MOBO is bad.

The mobo can also shut off any PSU, if the PSU fails
or it sees the regulators in the MOBO fail.
the Desktop runs on many power rails.
some in the PSU, others on the MOBO.
THe mobo creates special low voltage for the CPU.

the power good pin, does that #8,
One way to see if the MOBO is overload
is to remove things from it, I start at RAM
lacking a voltmeter, this is very hard to fix any thing electric.
only guessing or pulling objects PC can find shorts.
pull all power cables there, hdd, power, cdrom.
all things that use red/yellow wires.
all SATA cables, all USB , then ram. even a fan can short
a good tech keeps an open mind, and finds why the PSU shut down.
in most cases, the PSU is bad. but not always.

This is a feature, of ATX it keeps you from blowing up say a
$300 microprocessor.... or fancy gaming Video card (have one)?
yes, pull the video card too.

The power supply light is on Acer 2300

Ok all PSU, these days are whats called Switchmode technology, now these PSU, are designed to shut down if they "See" an overload, or short circuit... When the PC is connected to the PSU, it draws current, IF that current is over a certain limit it will also shut down... Sometimes that will happen also when the PSU is faulty.. that voltage measured when NOT connected, is called the "Open Circuit" voltage and can be misleading, as really it must be measured under load, as it is called. So, if when, you connect the PSU's LED goes OUT, then either the PC, is faulty, OR the PSU is faulty, the only real way to tell is by substitution. Also check where the lead enters the Plug, this will sometimes cause problems. A PC should work ONLY on a PSU, so remove battery and check, if still no go, then, suspect the PSU, if it does, may be the battery. OR the internal power conditioning circuitry.

T5026 won't start up

Unplug the power cord, open the computer and disconnect all the power cables (the cables going from the power supply to motherboard and drives). Then reconnect the power cord and see if the light on the PSU comes on, if so disconnect the power cord and plug in the motherboard connectors and continue connecting components one by one to determine which may be the problem. If no power light with everything disconnected then the PSU needs replaced.

My Ibm t49 the display shuts off as soon i as i boot up help

There are several possibilities within two categories:

SOFTWARE (you are using MS, so this is more likely)
HARDWARE these symptoms can be caused by bad battery and/or bad PSU (AC Power Supply Unit)

Software: You may have a virus, or may have damaged the NT kernel, or some critical software components by installing cheap games or bad SW. Read the recovery instructions on your XP CD to boot and run recovery and/or utilities that might repair the laptop OS. If you have no CD, try booting and hitting F6 key after BIOS screen... then explore the options there. Next, try booting and hitting F8 key after BIOS screen... then explore the options there.

If there are no problems repaired or evident in software, you should remove the battery, plug in the PSU and try booting. If all goes well, your battery is probably bad. If NOTHING happens, then your PSU is definitely bad (or the PSU cable/jack/connection to your computer is bad)

Conversely, remove the PSU and boot only with the battery. If it boots up (or goes farther than it did before) then the battery may be low/damaged BECAUSE the PSU is bad. If your laptop does not even open/get at least to BIOS screen, then the battery is dead. Try recharging overnight with laptop off but plugged into AC. If it is the same in the morning, replace the battery.

Both the battery and PSU can be checked with a VTVM, to compare voltage/output levels, with the ratings on the labels

Philips IQON

Check your Power Supply Unit..(PSU) It has most probably "Faulted". BUT first remove all cards... disconnect all Hard Drives, CD/DVD's etc.. try to power on... if still no-go then ya PSU IS Definitely faulty. Replace. If it DOES go, then, simply plug in each removed device and turn on again, in turn,... until it will NOT power on & that device, will be your "Faulty" bit.. replace that device/card etc. & NOT the PSU. The PSU's are fairly inexpensive these days. To replace ya PSU, open up ya PC... Disconnect the PSU's Plug from Motherboard. Unscrew the Four (4) Screws from PSU, from the rear, near fan. To install is simply the reverse process... Screw the PSU into place..connect up the Plug onto the Mother Board.. ya done.. Power On.
