Your power supply is external to the laptop, it plugs into the wall and then to the laptop, there is no opening for it.

How can I assure that the power supply unit PSU is defective?

You only need a PSU board if the back light inverters are combined with it. Otherwise look for the inverter board. To be sure it's defective, when the picture goes off shine a flashlight on the screen to see if you can spot movement from the program on the screen. If you can see movement then the inverter board needs replacing. If you can't see any movement then the T-Con board is bad. I need a power supply for my monitor, the one I have gets hot & monitor goes out

If this is the PSU supplied with the monitor then it should be rated for the current drawn.

If it is overheating it might be failing or the monitor is overdrawing current. Replacing the PSU may not resolve the problem. You should really have it checked out by somebody who knows about electronics.

Harmon kardon hs250 speakers stopped working

You are probably missing the +34V that comes from the PSU and goes to the amp module. Usually this problem is caused by bad capasitors on the PSU. If you look at the PSU's caps, you'll see that almost all of them have poppet at the top. These caps needs to be changed. It's not unusuall that 20 of them needs to be changed. These caps can also result in problem to adjust volume and problem to turn the product "on".

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

hope this helps

When i shut down windows xp, it goes through all and the hard drive shuts down but the cpu fans and coooler fans keep going, then i cannot switch it back on unless i reach to the back of the computer and...

It seens like a motherboard or power supply problem.

If you have a spare PSU, replace it with the current computers PSU. If you don't have a spare, you can always take one from another computer.

If the problem is still showing up, then the motherboard may be defect and will have to be replaced.

Wat goes where from the power supply

on the newer psu's (power supply units) they are labeled. if they are not there is a basic rule. if it fits the socket without forcing it, use it there. there are many 4 pin plugs on a psu. these are all identical and all are exactly the same. they can be used anywhere a 4 pin connector is needed. newer psu's also have 6 pin, 8 pin and sata plugs. 6 pin and 8 pin are generally for video cards that are pcix sata pugs are for any sata drive, like a dvd or a hard disk. also there is a 24 pin or a 20 + 4 pin connector. this goes to the mother board.

The power supply light is on Acer 2300

Ok all PSU, these days are whats called Switchmode technology, now these PSU, are designed to shut down if they "See" an overload, or short circuit... When the PC is connected to the PSU, it draws current, IF that current is over a certain limit it will also shut down... Sometimes that will happen also when the PSU is faulty.. that voltage measured when NOT connected, is called the "Open Circuit" voltage and can be misleading, as really it must be measured under load, as it is called. So, if when, you connect the PSU's LED goes OUT, then either the PC, is faulty, OR the PSU is faulty, the only real way to tell is by substitution. Also check where the lead enters the Plug, this will sometimes cause problems. A PC should work ONLY on a PSU, so remove battery and check, if still no go, then, suspect the PSU, if it does, may be the battery. OR the internal power conditioning circuitry.

Emachines T2042 does not power up. what could be the reason? a faulty switch or a faulty power supply? The power cord is fine. There is also some spark when I plug the power cord into the cpu whiles its...

Not usually, what you need to do is see if the fan in the back of the PSU, runs at switch on... If it does NOT, there is a good chance your PSU has "Blown" this is a simple replacement, and quite cheap. You need to troubleshoot the PC, you need to also see if the fan on CPU goes at all, even a "Flick" at turn on? To see whats what, remove all Drives DVD and cards, then power on, if No GO then probably PSU.. IF OK replace things until, it stops, that is your problem.. Also remove a stick of RAM, and swap about if two to test them... A machine will boot with just RAM, but will complain..remove and introduce things one by one until you find problem, if you do all that and it is NOT, the, PSU, RAM, CARDS, HARD DRIVE, DVD, then it is your Motherboard. Try that see how you go.
