Maytag dryer squeeks likes it is rubbing against something or off balance

Squeaking noises are NOT necessarily an indication of bearing failure - but could be an indication of a slipping belt or something else rubbing. The machine itself may be rubbing against a washer, wall, door jamb, or anything really.

Look around the machine. See if it is in contact - or close to ant of these things. When it is running - it could be bumping against something. If nothing is found - have a look inside the the dryer. Inspect the belt and clean the drum where the belt tracks. Repl;ace the belt it is ready to break, missing parts or de-laminating. If you find shiny metal filings - that indicates metal is rubbing somewhere and is likely to be the cause of the squeak.

If the sound is coming from the lower half its probably the tensioner pully may squeek a long time before it breaks the belt. Or your balance pullys (if equip) or the nylon sliders that do the same job are worn and need replaceing. Both require you to take the front off to ck. good luck

The drum belt could be rubbing on something inside. Does the dryer make a squeeking noise? Se if there are small rubber particles on the bottom, this will indicate a deteriating belt.

Hi, I've had a similar problem (I think) on my MDG7400 dryer. There was a cyclical squeak, metal against metal. It turned out to be the screw that holds the drum paddle to the drum. It had worked itself loose and was scraping against the inside wall of the dryer. Remove the front door lift the top, and tighten 'er up. Hope that helps.

You can try some very light oil on it to see if it helps. Also check the heating element housing and mounts. Sometimes you will get some sheetmetal squeeks as things heat up and cool down causing the sheetmetal to loosen and rub against each other.
I am sure you can get the parts locally, if not you can order them off the net or from Sears.
