Stick inverter does not perform

Hi,
My Inverter stick welder is not performing the way it should. The start up arch is fine but as soon as I bring the rod closer to the workpiece it start to sputter and stick, it does not matter if it is on the highest setting it still does it. The weird thing is it does not do it so often at night when it is cooler, feels like there is a loose connection somewhere that prevents the continues power from the welder to come through. I don`t know if it might be the capacitor bank? Any suggestions? please help
Regards
Bastiaan

    Hi,
Thanks for the feedback, I tried what you suggested but it still does the same , sticks and sputters sometimes, and sometimes it is fine, can it be the pot meter where you select the amperage, when it starts to sputer I turn it full amps but makes no difference.
    Regards
    Bastiaan

Hey Man-

Welcome to the world of arc blow--

everything electric and radio on earth has a magnetic pole. which causes your welds to look like bird spank-
depending on what rod or material your welding / use a jumper ground or reverse your +/- leads and see if your gaining on it

The settings for welding aluminium using a Tig200P AC/DC inverter

If you are using a remote then you would set the machine in standard for controlling output and also to AC output, HF tig, contactor and control in remote position. I don't know if this helps or not but I pulled it from an owners manual.

Make sure the tungsten tip is sharp, not too far from the nozzle and try not to let it touch the metal or molten pool. Also make sure you have an adequate gas feed

small inverter will not put out the amperage required for welding. if you still have power at the stick and no buzz but a steady melt the rectifier probably crapped out. for light welding harbor freight has a mig thats $90 and will do light jobs decently.

Inverter stick welder welding rod sputters and sticks

It sounds like the rod that you're using is too big. If it is a 110 volt machine, and you're using a 1/8 rod...Then the rod is too big. Try a 3/32 rod.
