It sound like you have a direct short in the compressor ,Usually it means you have a bad compressor, but sometimes it could be a loose wire or bad outdoor motor. Ive installed about 10 of these units and still have yet to have a bad compressor. It could also be a bad circuit board in the outdoor unit.I wish I could narrow it down better but thats my best guess! Thanks ---Nate

I have a raka-037jaz air cond. I was wondering what size is this unit? And if my breaker keeps tripping for the outside condenser does that mean my compressor is workIng too hard and needs to be replaced?...

Hello You have a 3 ton unit with a 10 SEER rating.this unit should NEVER be on a 50 amp breaker. The breaker size is on the model plate/sticker....any way the compressor is shot and it is time to find a new 3 ton condensing unit.espescially if it is TRIPPING a 50 amp.Good luck

The fan will not engage when unit is turned on and after 5 or so minutes the circuit breaker trips.

since the fan doesn't run - the compressor heats up and pulls excessive amps and trips the breaker.
99 out of 100 times your fan motor will be bad.
You need to replace the motor.

Kenmore central air conditioning unit tripping breaker each time we turn it on.

The breaker tripping when you turn the unit on indicates a 'direct short' and 99 out of a 100 times the short will be either the outside fan motor or the compressor itself. Either way - you will need a qualified serviceperson to diagnose this problem correctly and make the needed repairs.
Best solution is to call AC person.
However, here's a good way you can get it down to either the fan motor or the compressor.
(1) With all power OFF - disconnect the wires to the fan motor
(2) turn on AC unit (a) if breaker trips it means the compressor is probably the shorted component. (b) if breaker DOES NOT trip and the compressor runs - it means the fan motor is shorted.
(3) If breaker tripped with the fan motor disconnected meaning the compressor is probably shorted you can then (with ALL POWER OFF) 'disconnect the wires going to the compressor' and re-connect the fan motor wires. Turn on power - and if fan motor runs (with compressor wires off) you know it's the compressor that is shorted.
After all this you will now know which of the two (compressor or fan motor) is shorted.
If it's the fan motor you can with 'limited mechanical experience' change the motor yourself, but if it's the compressor you will need to call a serviceperson because of the expertise needed to replace the compressor.

I have a Trane xr12 air conditioner. I turned off 230v breakers at the air handler, cleaned the filter and turned the breakers back on. now the compressor doesnt come on. I checked the relay on the...

Is the blower coming on inside? If it isn't, try tripping both breakers again. If the blower is working, your thermostat may be timed out or the air cond may have a timer in it that will keep it from coming on for a few minutes.

If none of the above work, make sure you didn't pull any wires off when you pulled the filters out.

Condenser coil is blocked by full of dust.-Clean it. Fan motor less rpm -Replace capacitor. As you said, 1 minute running compressor due to weak capacitor. Replace running capacitor and clean coil with water and then check. Hope, helpful.

Air conditioner runs for several minutes then

Take it back to the dealer and have them fix it, could be a compressor froze up or a fan froze up. If you disconnect the compressor and turn it on and it trips the breaker the fan is probably
bad. If you disconnect the Fan and turn it on and it trips the breaker
it is you compressor.

A/c is drawing 20 amps and keeps tripping breaker after running

If the fan is running and the compressor is getting hot and tripping off you may have a failed capacitor.

AC breaker trips after 10 minutes

Whats the amp breaker? Is this for the inside unit or the outside condenser? If the inside and gas heat you have a bad fan motor, If its an electric furnace , the same, but if its the outside unit, the fan could be going bad, locking up and the compressor still runs and pulls high ampsand tripps breaker or the compressor is just pulling too many amps due to plugged coils with dirt , grass or weeds blocking airflow.(koolbreezes74401@yahoo.com)

Need Fan Motor Part Number for Fujitsu 12C1

First, is it in warranty? If so, call the installer. Fan motors don't usually cause the breaker to trip, and usually if they go bad, that's it. They don't work again. I would look at the compressor. Also change the air filter and clean the condenser and evaporator coils. BUT, if you want to replace the motor, read the I.D. label on it. You may need to remove it to do this, but it will have all the info you need. With this information, go to the local appliance parts store, and they can match it up with something that will work. Most of these motors pull no more than 8 amps, so for one to trip the breaker, which is at least 20 amps, I assume, the internal overload would turn it off before that happened. I would bet that when the breaker tripped, it was a hot day. Clean the outside coil, a hose will do fine. and change the air filter at least every 3 months, depending on hoiw much its used.
