Question about Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 Keyboard/Mouse

1 Answer

I just got the Microsoft wireless laser desktop for Mac with high definition laser mouse. I put in the new batteries, installed everything but the mouse will not work. I've noticed the laser on the mouse does not light up. According to my computer everything is working and ready to go. Do I have a defective mouse and if so, what do I do? The mouse is a Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000, model #1052. Thanks for your help...I am anxious to use this set!

According to the product compatibility specifications, the mouse you purchased, is, indeed compatible with Mac OS X v10.2-10.4 (excluding Mac OS X v10.0-10.1). Now, if you have a newer MacBook, you may be running Leopard and that is not included in included in what they say is compatible, nor is it excluded as they mention earlier versions of Mac OS X will no work. My thinking is that your mouse should probably work Leopard. After all, there is an Intel processor in your computer, and Microsoft in the past, has had a symbiotic relationship with Intel.

Even if it was incompatible, it should definitely turn on - even if it wasn't going to work properly. Compatibility isn't a factor that should affect whether it turns on or not.

It is my overall assumption that your mouse is bad. You may have just picked up a defective product by a fluke. It happens! I would exchange the mouse as soon as I had the opportunity. If it were me, I'd take my computer in the store, that is, unless you purchased it online - and try the mouse right in the store to see if it works. If it doesn't work, get your refund and move on to another brand.

I would suggest seeing what Logitech has to offer or perhaps, MacAlly. Good luck!!

I installed a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 using a USB connection. Is there a way to check the battery status. The program I installed that came with the Mouse does not have a tab for checking Battery...

Microsoft wireless mice typically put an icon in the system notification tray (right side of the taskbar, next to the clock) showing the mouse's current status. If you hover over this icon, the battery status should be displayed (it may just say either "OK" or "battery low").

The wireless mouse works but the laser 5000

press connect on the wireless device...let go and then within 5 seconds press the button on the bottom of the keyboard. Repeat the same steps for the mouse whther its working or not. The problem usually is that the keyboard and mouse are on the same "Wireless Channel" and only resyncing them puts them on a seperate channel, hope this helps.

Microsoft Wireless Desktop 3000 for Mac - mouse will not work

At the back of the mouse, there will be small flushed 'reset' button. Press that. It resets and reconfigures the connection. If it still doesn't work, the mouse has gone bad.
