Can't Connect to the Internet

I seriously need help. I know nothing about the way computer work or anything. Ever since my friend used my computer last week I have not been able to get on the internet. The little "D" at the bottom of my screen is Green and it looks like it's working but it isn't. When I try to get on-line I get messages that say: No connection to the internet is available and Can't find server. Please help but remember I am not computer smart.

Re: Can't Connect to the Internet

Two things you can try before trying your browser/Internet connection:
1. Right click on the Wireless Network Connection Icon, click on Repair. Allow the computer time to repair its WiFi connection and some other settings;
2. Right click on the Wireless Network Connection Icon, click on Status. Click on properties button, select TCP/IP (Internet Protocol), click on Properties button, verify that the option "Obtain IP address automatically is ticked, OK, OK.
3. In your browsers, verify/modify settings:
In Mozilla, click on Tools, Options, Advanced tab, Network tab, Settings button, tick "Auto-detect proxy settings for this connection, OK, OK;
In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Connections tab, LAN settings button, check "Automatically detect settings" (& pls make sure there is no check mark on the Proxy server), OK, Advance tab, check Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections.
In Opera, Tools, Preferences, Advanced tab, Network, Proxy server buttons, check "Enable HTTP 1.1 for proxy, OK, OK.

Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information. Hope that this be of some help/idea.

Good luck and kind regards.

You have to go into the router settings and switch it to a static ip address. You will need the settings from Dish and you will have to manualy enter then into the router.

I have the same problem, one moment it works, the next, "No Connection" I use my Belkin adaptor with my Hi Fi to stream Internet radio. I have reset both the adaptor and my router twice without any luck. Check that your Dad has not changed the security settings on the router. If so, you will need to change the the adaptor settings to match. This adaptor does not have the strongest signal, so this also may need repositioning. Good luck. I am about to try re do the settings. failing this i have run out of ideas

You need a wireless bridge. In all honesty, try the PDP (formerly Pelican) Xbox 360 router. They are configurable from the computer, support all manner of encryptions, and look rather nice. Used ones can be had for as little as 30.00 on eBay or 70.00 new, and they are very user friendly. As they are a standard bridge, they work with anything.

I need info about connecting to the internet via modem

I assume when you say you want a modem, it's because you want a wired connection to the internet. Your HomePortal already has an integrated ADSL modem, and it will not be possible for you to add another one to your line.

If you want a wired connection to the internet, you can either run ethernet cable from the HomePortal downstairs, or you can use a wireless bridge like the SMC EZ Connect g. (There are several brands of adapters that are marketed especially for gaming consoles, but they function similarly to the non-gaming bridges.) The instructions included with the equipment will tell you how to enter the necessary security information for your network.

Also, if you'd like to avoid switching the cable connection every time you move between the X-box and the computer, you can run the wireless bridge into a small network switch, and then plug both items into that. (This would also work with the cable from downstairs if you choose that route.) This gives the added advantage of allowing simultaneous access by both machines.

Cant connect weird problem

Check to make sure that your the xbox isnt too close to a power supply, metal, or the tv. It could interfere with it. With computers, you can connect to a wireless router but not be able to use it. Make sure that, if you have security, that your password to get into your router is correct. You can also try changing the wireless frequency. If it is your product, and you just got it, take it back and get another one. If it still doesnt work, then it has to be your router. Even bring it to a friends place and see if it works with his stuff, if that would be the case, then you know for sure its your wireless and your isp needs to get another phone call.

Have you tried enabling the Wireless Zero service? In Control Panel/Admin Tools/Services, scroll down to Wireless Zero and enable it. Some cards use their own interface, some use Wireless Zero. Do you have Wireless Icon showing in the System Tray? You should be able to access the settings by Right-clicking this icon.
