Error when importing MPP file Mircosoft Project

Hi, today I tried to import an mpp file and I got the following error: java.class.path: eclipsito.jar;. java.home: C:\Program Files x86\Java\jre7 java.ext.dirs: C:\Program Files x86\Java\jre7\lib\ext;C:\windows\Sun\Java\lib\ext java.io.tmpdir: C:\Users\peter.danailov\AppData\Local\Temp\ java.runtime.version: 1.7.0_51-b13 java.vendor: Oracle Corporation java.vm.name: Java HotSpotTM Client VM java.vm.vendor: Oracle Corporation java.vm.version: 24.51-b03 os.arch: x86 os.name: Windows 7 Is there a way to stop this error?

How big is your mpp file? You may try increasing the amount of memory available
to Java Runtime. Unfortunately you can't do it for ganttproject.exe (which is
associated with GanttProject shortcuts in Windows menus) but you can do it for
ganttproject.bat which comes with ZIP distro (and with Windows distro too,
AFAIR). Try replacing -Xmx512m with -Xmx1024m in ganttproject.bat and start
that bat file.

The .mpp files become Read-Only
A couple of things to try
a) Go to File --> Options --> Trust Centre --> click on Settings --> Then "Allow loading files with legacy ...
and re try loading
B) try opening a blank file and importing

What do I restore corrupted .mpp file?
The other quick thing to try is in a new project go Project, SubProject.
In the browse dialog deselect the Link option then select your project. It might be able to read the file and copy its data into your new file.

We have to discover what is failing: the export or the import part of the process.
There are several open source programs to check if a XML file is valid. If the XML file is found to be invalid, you know there is a bug in the export process.
If you are not afraid of command line interfaces (this has future, also in MS environments), xmllint can be a good tool to validate XML.

Does anyone know how I can repair .mpp file?
you can't repair the MPP file yourself it would be too complex. There are tools around which will attempt to repair it for you but they will charge you for it.

Here's a repair tool which I selected form the internet at random. They have a demo of it which you can use to see if the file is recoverable but my guess is if your actually want to recover it, it's going to cost you. I'm unaware of any freeware recovery programs for this file type.
